I haven't delved too much into rom hacking (besides gba) but I was wondering if it's currently possible to swap midi for midi? I wanted to replace the battle theme (and fanfare) on Nostalgia from final fantasy X. I find it just too boring, and for a game that reminds me of FFX I'd like to remember FFX while playing this game. Ahh.. the nostalgia.

So can anyone help me? I'm guessing I need to find the hex address where the battle/fanfare midi are located... am I right?

"midi" as in SSEQ (not that it really matters: http://kiwi.ds.googlepages.com/ ).

Without pulling apart the rom (Square Enix have used "custom" formats in the past which in this case would make life far simpler, see the world ends with your/TWEWY sound hacking) the file with all the sounds in is usually the one with the .SDAT file extension (spec here http://kiwi.ds.googlepages.com/sdat.html and http://tahaxan.arcnor.com/index.php?option...ult&lang=en ). You can pull this from the file system (no rom I have yet seen has the sound in the binary like they can do for text)

Most existing sound hacks* however stick to the internal files simply because the SSEQ is based around two components:
1) the SSEQ itself.
2) the instruments it uses (the [sound]bank).

Secondly "midi" may not be the file format of choice here: the SDAT format also allows basic shorter wave (usually shorter sounds- voice samples/gunshots and the like) and longer wave type formats (full tracks such as those you might have seen in one of the Tony Hawk's skateboarding games).
