Hacking No Wi-Fi Trading?

I've noticed that I can't seem to trade in Pokemon. Is this something related to the ROM itself, or the flash cart?

If it's the translated versions of Black and White, don't be surprised. The translated Pokemon names break the given character limit for name creation, so the game freaks out when attempting to connect to wi-fi things.

Find the name changer and all will be well.

Name Changer is in Hiun City, the rightmost street (next to pokecenter/mart)

go inside the building on the left and talk to the old man.

It was Heart Gold, well, a hack of it anyway.

I could get into the Union Room, but any attempt to try and trade would result in an error screen.

The odd thing is, a hacked Platinum ROM I also have had working Wi-Fi in the Underground, which makes me wonder why that worked and this one didn't.
