Holy fuck, what did I just say about the shitty jokes?
You can really fucking stop with them. They're not funny. I'm not laughing.

These are the kinds of people who think that Dane Cook is hilarious (he's not).
And the kind of people that like saying fail, saying over 9000, looking at I can haz cheezburger and Failblog. Society's humor sucks.

Off topic (arm the homeless is a slogan)

on topic, i think they will find a way to detect unknown channels at the startup like they did with the old homebrew channel

if you dont think its funny dont reply. nobody cares if your not laughing. your homeless!
I really don't care if stuff isn't funny, but when it tries desperately to be funny... well that's just stupid.

Since when is the want to give homeless people guns implying that I'm homeless?
Does someone think my name is Arm? No. They better not.

first i though it was Arming the Homeless with guns, but then I thought Arm was your name.

i guess thats true..

The sad truth is probably in another 10-12 months they will release a new updated that blocks HBC with JODI id....
....either that or a subroutine that phones the console police who come and demand monehz for every dodgy wad or iso that u have then the wii will self destruct turning itself into strawberry blancmange.

Well, if you would understand more, you would see that nintendo is nowhere near doing serious attempts against homebrew and/or piracy. Bannerbomb just required an update, the HBC is installed with another exploit(as promised) and (most fail in my eyes) Trucha Bug Restorer didn't really need an update, it only needed to know the new IOS version numbers.

So they didn't even patch whatever exploit the TBR uses to enable IOS15 to be downgraded? That's pretty silly on their part.

The TBR update took so long, because i didn't expect them to fail that much. It's not one exploit, it's well:
- Installation can be started with the version that is already installed(ok, not really a bug, maybe handy to repair broken installations)
- When the installation is started, all installed files are copied to (collected in) /tmp/ until the installation is finished, the files have the correct rights attributes, you are not allowed to read/write these files. But you can delete them! And of course create a new file with the same name...
- The newly created file has the wrong attributes, it would be easy to check if it's the orginal or the newly created file.
- When starting the installation the signature is checked(that's the only part where nintendo is not failing). But it's not checked when finishing the installation.
- The signature is not checked either when running an IOS
- There's no check if ticket and tmd version match(maybe there's one on installation start...)

To summarize if nintendo:
would fix their rights management to disallow to delete a file you can't write
or would check file attributes(owner id for example)
or would check the signature on finishing installations
or would check the signature on running IOS
or would check if version of tmd and ticket match
then TBR would stop working.

Stop giving Nintendo ideas. It might come back to bite you on the backside.

No doubt they will be scanning these forums to find out how their product works and where they are exposed.

I'm pretty sure they have the know-how to fix those problems already. They're just very slow in doing it or have some odd fixation with trying to fix things with the least effort possible

The guy(s) who are able fix the sutff i mentioned, are able to gather all that info(and more) from the source code within 1 day. (if they wanted to...)

Ah. I've just never had to use the app myself and so haven't stumbled on any posts explaining its workings nor peeked at the source. I'd probably not understand too much of it anyway.

The absolute best way for nintendo to disable homebrew by quite a bit would be to put an update hidden deep inside of another update that seemed harmless.

e.g. system menu 4.3.. seems just like 4.2 which is already fine. So then people update. all is well.
But then at a certain date it automatically patches the new bannerbomb, overwrites boot2 again, removes jodi, patches smash bros and indiana jones and from then on automatically checks the boot2 and for homebrew every time it loads up

.

if i was at nintendo that would be how I would do it. a time bomb.

So you're basically saying that Nintendo distributes a glorified Trojan? Not only is it against conduct but it's unethical. Nintendo CANNOT update your system without your permission. That includes hidden updates. If they could, you might as well delete the Wii Hacking forum. Even then, once a system has been cracked, pirates ALWAYS find a way. Even if they delete every single piece and trace of homebrew on your system, there's still another vulnerability out there that's waiting to be discovered.

If Nintendo wants to stop piracy they should have built a system that wasn't so full of loopholes. The fact that any idiot with an SD card can hack their Wii to do nearly anything is astounding. I mean, that's one of the reasons I like the Wii, since I don't need to pay for many games, but Nintendo cannot stop the rampant piracy as it is. The Wii will forever be known as probably the easiest system to pirate on.

Better luck next time, Nintendo.

But luckilly nintendo have over 9000 (sorry, couldn't help it) lawyers that would tell them it's a very bad idea to basically rootkit someone elses computing equipment, even if you make it. You can't use fighting criminals as an excuse to use illegal methods.

once SNEEK v2 is out nintendo have lost for good.
I talked to crediar and he said SNEEK v2 doesn't use an IOS slot anymore and online update works without breaking SNEEK!

I think Nintendo's next attempt will scan for title IDs again. And this is what the update message will say:

Wii Menu version 4.3 is now available for your Wii console. To update your Wii Menu to the latest version, please select the Update button at the bottom of the screen or select the System Update option in the Wii System Settings.

This update is made to delete any unauthorized modifications from your Wii system. This update also makes it possible for us to remotely update your Wii, thus making it both easier and safer to keep your Wii console up to date.

Unauthorized modifications can impair and/or damage the Wii. Some of them are illegal as well. Wii Menu 4.3 is designed to keep your console free of these modifications, so that your console will function both properly and legally..

Our EULA has also been changed to reflect this update. Many changes are because of the growing instances of piracy on the Wii. Changes made also reflect our efforts to prevent illegal copies of our games. You may read it in full at Nintendo.com. You will be required to accept the revised EULA in order to use the Wii. Failure to do so will prohibit you from using your Wii (as defined in the revised EULA).

In compliance with the DMCA, the following Wiis will cease to function after this update: Team Twiizers, marcan, bushing, Waninkoko, Xuzz, SoftMii, ect. If you own on of these Wiis, please read this:

http://nintendo.com/FAKE/1195-court-summon...homebrew-makers

You are required by law to install this update, as defined in the Wii EULA (regarding piracy).

**Please note: If you've updated your Wii Menu after 9/29/09, you may not need to update again.

Thank you for updating your Wii console!

Like that would ever happen. And if it did, I'd give it a week to be circumvented like everything else. Required by law to update? not rly
