Hacking Nintendogs Dalmations AR problem

I recently got back into playing Nintendogs again. With the R4 and it's Action Replay abilities, I was wondering why whenever I press select (for all items), my Nintendogs would freeze?

Any ideas? For whatever reason, I was able to get all items for my previous file (which stuffed up the ability to buy new dogs cause of trainer points). How did this happen?
