I like trophies/achievements a lot, especially on psn cuz you have a level associated with it. also, it is cool to show off you got like platinum in a game, with it being online so all your friends can see it. sort of like a small competition you can compete in with at the same time is easily acknowledged by any other person on PSN
You sound like someone who plays the Playstation 3. And if you want competition, go to EVO. And I really don't care that you got some platinum trophy for doing something. I wish I could get a platinum trophy for cleaning my room. :) Huh, guess some things are more valued than others...

I'm also one of those that loves both achievements and trophies. I got pretty sad when I learned that the Wii U wouldn't get any type of this system :( Hope they add this in a update soon, especially before Mario Kart 8 :)

well you can think of it like an mmo, people who grind to high levels dont necessarily have high levels of "skill", but there are going to be people that will be impressed regardless of the situation. trophies/achievements dont mean anything but it is still a fun way to collect things and pasively show off. its not something as grand as EVO, which is why i said it was small.

So you'll be impressed that I grinded to level 89 in Chrono Trigger? But yeah, some people will be impressed with that. And that's not exactly a multiplayer game. But well... it is small...

Sorry for the title. I didn't mean to imply that Nintendo were adding this to the system.

Regarding trophies, I found that I did get a bit OCD with them on the PS3 / Vita which made me sort of fall out with the system. There were some trophies that were completely stupid.

"Play Kill Mode for 500 Hours" etc.

However I do think they would be a good idea to show what you need to do in order to have explored every aspect of the game.

For example on Super Mario there could be one for the "1 Million Coins" which in turn changes your start screen.

Pokemon is a good one as it has ribbons etc. It would be nice to display them with your friends though as it does give a sense of competition.

In other words, Grinding Trophies would be a NO NO and other trophies such as "Level Complete", "You caught 200 Pokemon", Collected 10 Power Ups for me would be a yes. Something that actually occurs naturally in a game. Not something that prolongs the game more than it should.

Heres an example. Final Fantasy 13 on the PS3. I completed the game after 70 hours. This was a normal play through. I then decided I was going to "platinum" the game which means get all the trophies. I managed to get every trophy except one after 80 hours. The last trophy was to aquire every piece of weaponry / armory etc.... I didn't finish this untill I was 170 hours in. So for 90 hours it was pointless but I did it just to get that trophy.

Wait, a normal play through took you 70 hours? Did you do all the sidequests or something? I finished it in... something between 45 and 50 hours. Which still felt like forever.

Guys, you may not like achievements and trophies,
but let's take some things in consideration.

Achievements may add new gameplay and challenges,
something just fine for you who want a lil' bit more of that game,
or if you want to feel that sensation of doing a game 100%,
or to show off to friends and challenge them to do the same.

You don't have to complete achievements if you don't want to,
but it's always nice to have an option is always nice.

Developers always have the option of making achievements on their own should they choose. Nintendo just does not force them to make them like Sony and Microsoft do. For example Xenoblade had it's own in-game achievement system.

If you have trophys, why would you want them to be easier to get? that doesn't make sense, i'm proud of my trophys if they were easy to get i wouldn't be.

Making trophies on your own is much harder than making ones for a system that already have a trophy system.
Trophies are a tendency, it's just Nintendo that is opposing it.

Imagine one that would require for you to have all the Pokemon in existence. So much hard work. =O

In pokémon you can "upgrade" your trainer card by getting stars.
You can have up to 5 stars, for every star you collect your trainer card changes it's collor.
1 of the stars is got by completing the national pokedex,
so basically there is already an achievement for that.
