I don't know. New account, only post, logged off after seeing my message. Take what that user said with a hefty grain of salt.

Now that patched switches can be hacked, what would the ban situation be for emunand users with as clean as possible emunand, only legit games and no homebrew?
I guess we have to wait and see if anyone reports being banned

Atmosphere features a clean emuMMC boot for those who wish to go online with emuMMC.

just a quick question, entirely digital games (like cadence of hyrule) have only NSP format right?
so i shouldn't be playing those games or i could convert to XCI and play them with no risk?

Ok so today the 29th June 2019 I've carefully set up emunand via sx os on my switch making sure my sysnand is clean as possible (but who knows maybe I screwed up somewhere, oh well). I can boot into cfw on emunand and no wifi connection, airplane mode on, stealth mode on, I can play xci/nsp just fine. I disable autoRCM and boot into sysnand, connect to wifi and I can browse eshop, download game updates etc. (can't play online cos haven't paid yet), no issues totally fine.

Does this mean I'm in the clear in terms of a ban? It wouldn't be instant ban, there would be a delay, right? Anyone know how long I should wait? I really want to buy Mario Maker 2 and play online.

Well .XCI files still carry a risk. Maybe not as much as .NSP files but people have been banned for .XCI files in the past. Although if you use EmuNAND or flash a clean NAND, it doesn't matter if you use .NSP or .XCI files.

As long as your SysNAND is clean and you never go online in your EmuNAND partition, you shouldn't be banned.

Is risky to go online with AutoRCM/less fuses than expected for 8.1? I want to keep the option of downgrading in the future

It's too late for me to change what's been done, but I'd like a little advice, so here's where I'm at right now:

Sometime in May, I updated to firmware 8.0.1 from 7~something by booting into Atmosphere and using ChoiDujourNX to avoid burning fuses. Prior to that I had finally updated to 7~something from 5.1.0 just a little before 8.0.1 was released. ChoiDujourNX is the only homebrew anything I've ever run. The only times I've booted Atmosphere were the 2 times I updated the firmware.

The reason I updated my firmware was to be able to download updates to my games and cash in the download codes I got with some of the physical games I purchased. So, other than those updates, I've always been booted into Stock firmware and used the eshop several times for cashing in those codes.

Prior to this, I had kept my Switch offline since last year when I first updated to 5.1.0 for the same reason (update my games). I have been on AutoRCM since that time, so I've not burned fuses since 4.1.0.

When my Switch was last online (which was the day the 8.1.0 firmware was released), I was not banned. However, I've been reading ppl say that newer firmware can detect AutoRCM. Also, that newer firmware detects CFW like Atmosphere. My plan since 8.1.0FW was to wait for Hekate to be udpated so I could do like before and update the firmware so I could boot back to stock and continue downloading game updates as necessary. However, it sounds like AutoRCM and/or those couple boots into Atmosphere may have already potentially guaranteed a ban at some point.

I'm just looking for a realistic-as-possible expectation going forward. I don't want to burn fuses so that I can eventually go back to 4.1.0 at some distant point and use homebrew that will be available when Nintendo no longer supports the system. I don't do ANY piracy. All my games are physical copies (except one e-shop purchase and the eshop downloads like Bayonetta 1 that came with the physical Bayonetta 2).

I'm wanting to update to 8.1.0. I don't know if it's already downloaded and ready to install or not. I get the update notice every time I do anything ("Ready to start system update." Start Software, Update, or Cancel). I had planned to boot Atmosphere and click "Update" to avoid burning fuses if the update was ready to go, or manually update with ChoiDujourNX again if it's not already downloaded). For anyone knowledgable, what is your advice regarding AutoRCM, the update process I mentioned, and my wanting to go back online to download more game updates?

If you've read all of this, thank you very much.

If it is risky, then I've been lucky for several months. The data also supports this trend as no one has been banned for only using AutoRCM and/or having less fuses burnt than normal.

Not sure where people got the idea that newer firmware versions are detecting AutoRCM. I've been using AutoRCM online for months now with less fuses burnt than normal. The data also supports this trend.

Thank you for the reply. Is it correct though, that booting Atmosphere at all will flag your system and potentially lead to a ban? At the time I did this in the past, the consensus seemed that booting Atmosphere just to use ChoiDujourNX (not game backups and such) was fairly safe since it blocked a lot of telemetry.

Well given that apparently a lot of users boot Atmosphere online with no issues, and do not pirate or cheat/modify their save files, it appears to be "safe". Personally I don't take the risk and only boot to Stock mode via Hekate when going online but others can vouch for Atmosphere's online safety.

I'm sorry if this is a newb question.

I just want to know if I don't have a clean backup of my NAND.

Before i did anything, i deleted my WiFI settings so my switch was disconnected from the start. But i think i made two mistakes.

1). I inserted the SD card that i am using for the CFW which contained all the content for atmosphere, and then turned on my switch normally without injecting any payload (while still offline). My question is, does the Nintendo Switch log the content of the SD card into internal log files so they see whats in my card? I only ever booted into the main menu then immediately pulled out my SD card (prompting the switch to Turn Off).

2). Further down the steps, i wanted to get into Hekate to backup the NAND but I forgot to hold 'Vol -' to go into Hekate menu, and then it instead auto-booted into atmosphere. (This happened BEFORE i backed up my NAND).

I turned the switch off again and then went into Hekate and am finally in the process of backing everything up. Given what i have done above (while switch is disconnected) Does the Switch log all the stuff i did into any internal log files and the next time i connect to the internet in OFW (after restoring the NAND) will upload the logs to Nintendo? Then i get banned? What exactly does the Switch log? Does it only log when a crash has occurred?

Any info would be a great help, i certainly don't plan on reconnecting my switch to the internet for a little while at least, and will setup 90DNS a soon as this backup is done too.

For number 1, I wouldn't be worried. For number 2, if you booted into atmosphere, that taints it. It is possible that Nintendo won't ban you. Some people even try "cleaning" their NAND. I don't recommend that. Were you planning to go online soon for legitimate reasons? Just keep your backup safe, and revisit the scene about it when there is more progress on detection analysis.

    Thanks @masagrator

So im assuming that means that there's a high chance that i may be banned next time i connect to the internet using OFW? Any way to mitigate this by any chance?

    Thank you! @tabzer

I wasn't planning on going back online anytime soon. So i think i'll just stay disconnected from Nintendo servers until we get a better idea on detection analysis as you said

idk if this is relavent but i have a clean nand restored from purchase and an emunand of 8.1 with atmosphere and kosmos. I can say that i have switched between the two often and no ban just by using incognito on the atmo emunand and leaving prodinfo alone on the original nand as long as i only use the hb and such nsp or xci and cant go online unless i use the lan banned hack while keeping real and purchased stuff like youtube i have no banned status... clean carts and even more eshop dloads all work np. so in other words if i wanna use retroarch hb or an nsp xci install i use the emmunand but to view youtube or hulu or play a cart i use the real nand... and es online works as i can browse the eshop and also i have a online as well.... this could just be my caase i could be lucky or maybe i did something wright without knowing.... the prodinfo seems to be the key but i dont wanna spead false hope all i can say is as long as i dont combine the 2 nands in anyway the ban hasnt happened. I had 2 other switches and they both got banned before the release of this new emmunand and 1 even was an so ox with their emunand setup 2 but prodinfo was left inact.... take this with a grain of salt..... this is just my experiance and I take noc responsibilty for misleading anyone..... i will let you know if an eventual ban happens...

one quick not leave autorcm off thats the only thing that kinda worries me but i have an xkit rcm loder so not really an issue. i read here they can find out about it and ban you though i dont know if this is the case but why take a chance.

and fully power down b4 docking and leavig unit so it defalts back to default nand in dock while sleeping there... just another precaution.. it will wake in original nand then use rcm jig switch to emunand or leave as is watchyoutube hulu play online or use a cart.... bit absoulutely no hb use at all..... if i want camer shy id make a viseo as proof and i dont want the big N to "flag" me either

    Hi,

I have been using my switch with SXOS for a while now and would like to go back to OFW and buy a copy of Mario Maker 2.
I would like to know if I can go back and forth beetween OFW and CFW. I had plan on using 2 different SD card, one for OFW and one for SXOS. Only going online with the OFW and mario maker.
My switch is currently on 6.2.0 and is unpatched, there is some NSP on it and I have not used autoRCM.

I have seen the MM-linx, but would still prefer OFW+Mario maker 2.

Is this a terrible idea? (certain ban) If the idea not too bad, how should I do it?

    Thanks

No need to use multiple SD cards. Just use EmuNAND and keep CFW & homebrew in there while keeping legitimate online play in SysNAND. If you have a clean NAND backup, now would be the time to restore it.

Thanks! This is a great news! I do have a clean NAND backup.

This is how I plan on doing this:

    1- Restore nand
2- update to 8.1 using nintendo update online feature(I believe mario maker 2 will need it)
3- Create another nandback up ( Just in case?)
    4- install EmuNAND (using sxos)
5- Boot into sysnand for mm2 or boot into EmuNAND for CFW & Homebrew time

    Any step I am missing?

make sure to implement incognito on your emunand so it will stay off nintendo servers..... at least thats what i recommend sx os in cognito mode doesnt work i got banned while using it on a different switch...
