If they do it, I think they'll use the same approach that is taken with 3D stuff on the 3DS..
...where games can be enhanced by turning 3D on ...but they are totally playable in 2D, and don't fell like a different and worst game, just cause 3D is off.

Just change the 3D for cloud enhancements and 2D for offline rendering

I hope not, cloud gaming has too many technical problems, some of them hard or impossible to overcome, at least for fast action type games. Strategy or turn based stuff or games that do not require 1/100th of a second response times would work fine, but those are not really big sellers these days so it's hard to see spending the money on servers and infrastructure for them.

Hell I don't even like cloud based CRM products and those are about as far from real time as it gets. (CRM server goes down while you have 400 reps on the phone it's instant chaos.)

LOL, you guys. They're still at the researching phase. The things you guys are saying, they probably already know that, stuff like online infrastructures and the general internet speeds of different areas. If they set a general minimum net speed requirement, how many areas are likely to be able to accommodate that and how many can't, stuff like that.

nintendo are doomed are they?

nintendo are doomed are they?
But unlike the Xbone that doubles as a media centre and can be marketed as a HTPC, Nintendo's stringent refusal to deal with any kind of media and services keeps the WiiU a game console only... and it has no gaems :tpi: Nintendo is double doomed :tpi:

...I just realized something.

The GPU isn't connected to the network per se - communication is taken care of between the CPU, the memory and the Wireless module... so...

Nintendo:
GPU --> CPU --> Memory --> Wireless Module --> "The Cloud"

Everybody else:
CPU --> Memory --> Wireless Module --> "The Cloud"

...or am I missing something here? I mean, sure, you can use GPGPU to calculate floating point more efficiently... but at the end of the day, the data is still going to go through the CPU and the Memory before it's sent through the Cloud... Meaning the PS4 and the XBox One are still going to have the advantage either way... so... The point of this is...?

I didn't really read it that way, that they're researching how to improve the performance of GPGPU with cloud computing. Instead, I think Iwata means they're looking at how both technologies could be utilised at the same time to open up new possibilities. GPGPU doing its thing, the CPU doing its thing and the cloud doing its thing could perhaps put some performance naysayers in their places. Or something.

Ergo, you're right that the GPGPU wouldn't be talking to the cloud because that doesn't make any sense at all. :P

For anyone who is serious and believes that "Nintendo is doomed" they must have not felt stupid enough when they said the same for the Wii & DS. Even if Nintendo gets a horrible library of games, inferior hardware and don't market correctly they will still survive on their price & first party games alone. People on a few forums are just trying to start an online trolling fad with "Nintendo is doomed". Nintendo just like MS & Sony will be around for a long time, well until cloud gaming completely takes over and kills the industry.
