Nintendo rep says 3DS design not final

I wouldn't add achievements to my system if it's been known for generations how much hackers are attracted to the consoles.

The Achievements System effectively prolongs game longetivity. Imagine it implemented in the Pokemon franchise. "Caught Heatran, 50 GamerScore"

because your supposed to play games for fun not trophies/acks

Wellllllll, that's just the thing. Some people do find achievements fun. They sort of push the player to try new things, and to keep going back for more.
EDIT: Beaten to it. By like, fifteen people. And they said it better than I did. I lose.

I don't really care for achievements, especially if they are shared among people. It could be because I've had the unfortunate experience of listening to people trash-talking each other about how big their virtual e-peen is with what they've accomplished.

I think achievements, in a way, is a good thing. Mainly because it gives a game some replay value, especially single player games.

If it was a single player game, you'd beat it and put it down and probably wouldn't come back to it for a while. Achievements keep the replay value so you can keep playing and still get a sense of achievement.

Good, coz the design at the moment is fugly.
I really like it, actually. Some things could look a bit better but the shell is absolutely lovely. No change anymore

I hope there will be achievements for all games. (I thought Ninty had said at E3 that achievements would me mandatory for every game? I can't remember exactly what they said though)

step on goomba: Achievement unlocked! "These boots were made for Thwomping!"

Fire a fireball: Achievement unlocked! "That's a spicy meat-a-ball!"

No thanks...i'd rather not have an "achievement system"

And in case someone would like to point out my signature...I only have that in my sig for my PSN ID, and to show what game i'm currently playing.

Achievement/Trophies are fun to do. Especially it adds replay value to some less than fun games(Transformers WFC...) Like what Guild said, it's just fun to hear the message that you unlocked an achievement well, trophies for me.

Me and my friend continued bashing this design of the 3DS but it's actually not all that bad. Just resembles a DSI Xl with a bit of the original DS. It'll be cool if they can try and make a better design, don't really have anything in mind though.

Nintendo already has it's own 'achievement system'. When you're playing Wii Sports or other games like that, you get a Wii message saying what you did.
Same goes for Mario Kart Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Can't remember if it happened on 1)
It's not the same.
With achievements on the 360, other people can see them and they add to your gamer-score (e-peen). With Nintendo's system, only people who play your system can view the achievements. Nintendo's probably going to add an achievement system to the 3DS, anyways. It'll add to the social-'ness' of the device.

I hate the two different sized screens.... Just make them the same size...

Mehh, sorta too late for that now. The screen resolutions are pretty much final by now, I imagine.

But I do wonder how games that utilize both screens simultaneously will handle the weirdness of the screens.

I, for one, welcome changes to the final product. nintendo needs to get away from the stupid apple iphone glossy finishes on their products. yes, they look brilliantly shiney until you touch it and then its a mess with the oil from your fingers. if anything, they need to go back to the plastics used for the gameboy colour series. different colours of course to keep it from looking like a fisher-price toy, but a matte finish and a bit of texture to the case goes a long way of making the product look a bit less gaudy.

I know right, the screens don't look like they should go together but at least the kept the touchscreen.

Not the game boy plastic that was just horrific

I'd really really like to have an achievement system on the 3DS. Something like your Steam profile page to show to your friends.

If I pay 40-50 Euro per game, they should really do something.

I figured it wasn't final.

I really hope they move the headphone jack, and I wouldn't be surprised if they made the edges more round.

Most likely, it will stay the way it is now though.
