Nintendo refusing Japanese indie developers

Nintendo is trying to be more welcoming towards indie games than it has been in the past. At this year's Game Developers Conference, Nintendo revealed Unity for Wii U, Nintendo Web Framework. and offered to send out free development kits to indie developers.

That is, unless you are a Japanese indie game developer, apparently. While GDC was this past March, Japanese game developers are just now finding out about a curious policy Nintendo has.

I guess they don't want all those creepy otaku games, can't blame them. ;o;
 
Though I am not one to leap to Nintendo's defence (indeed "would not piss on them if they were on fire, unless they were already dead" probably sums it up) I have met cross region business weirdness on enough occasions now to at least want to wait until Nintendo says something and indeed will probably be inclined to dismiss it until such a time.
