It should work after a bit, on windows / *nix etc you can clear your DNS cache, and your system will resolve the updated DNS settings. I'm not sure about this situation, I would give your router a restart.

Rebooted the router. On my laptop I can now browse sites like gambling sites that were previously blocked, so parental controls are now off.

The Wii U is still not able to browse however and I get the same message from ISP. Internet conection test still fails also.
Tried powering off console and back on as well.

So you were on BT and also unable to use these DNS hax services? and you had to use a proxy setup instead ?

I never clicked on the "Delete Settings" button on the BT page, I will try that now I guess.

But I have just run that LocalDNS on my Windows file server and that seems to be working and blocking the Wii U from updating and accessing the eShop. However I can still connect to the Internet on the Wii U OK and browse loadiine.ovh etc.

OK thanks, so least now I know about the issues with BT ISP.

Think I will stick with this locally hosted DNS, as I have a HP Microserver running 24/7 and it seems to be working as of now and blocking the Wii U from accessing updates and the eShop but still allows the console Internet access.

I had this exact same issue i.e. even after disabling BT Web Protect and waiting for more than the two hours (that BT recommend) the wii kept getting the BT DNS page.
"You are seeing this page because you are using a BT service which requires the use of BT DNS servers and it appears that you are attempting to connect using a DNS server outside of our network"
"Our BT web Protect and BT Parental Control services both require the use of our BT DNS to keep you safe online"

The solution was to login to the router and disconnect/reconnect, so I guess you need a new IP address to properly get free from BT's DNS redirection.
