um woudn't it be better to sort the games on page 1 by release date instead of doing it alphabetically?

Why would we need release date? If a game is mentioned on here, I'm pretty sure it is already out. I'd be cool if the Rom number was listed though.

Maaan to do both requests would take HOURS of work, as well as being forced to change the current system I use (to update the list in as quick a time as possible).

@ nin10do - I don't see of what benefit this would gain to warrent the change. Just because one game is older than the other doesn't mean that isn't as good. And if you're only looking to play the latest games you should easily be able to identify the newer games on the list (based on the older ones that you already recognise or have played). If that isn't the case then you're still playing a good game either way as it's on the list.

@ GameSoulXIII - As stated earlier doing this would take a long time to do (there are over 250 games on that list afterall) and with so many sources for finding out the release number yourself (e.g. g-online/the releases page) I can't justify doing it especially when it would only take two or three clicks for you to find the number yourself. I could go even further and say that issues such as which rom number to use (should I add all the US/European/Japan/Spanish/Italian ones etc.) will occur for example.

the list has been updated!

* two new games have reached "essential" status!

* there has been well in excess of 2,100 individual votes made for games on the nds essentials list so a congratulations and thank you to all who have participated!
