no of course not, the GBA lasted 2 years after the release of the DS.

Barely.

The DS killed off the GBA, despite Nintendo claiming it wouldn't and the DS wouldn't replace the 'GameBoy' franchise. Remember the whole '3rd pillar' spiel Nintendo gave after E3 '04?

The 3DS release will spend the long, drawn out death of the DS. Stuff will still get released, but we'll see only a handful of games per year as support shifts over to the 3DS.

the ds won't last long after the release of the successor,
i mean you can even feel the change of generations already.
the number of announced or released games is shrinking, and the number of titles which are at least of medium quality isn't really big, because all developers are already preparing for the development of upcoming games for the 3ds. the only big deals which are going to be released in local areas are of course pokemon black/ white and okamiden. thats it.
