I have an issue with an old 3ds.

So after installing CFW and using -- specifically twilight menu ++ -- to play Pokemon games for the DS I used the Pokechest .nds software. After booting it, it brought me to the shut down screen. Now, whenever I open any Nintendo DS software (including cartridges) on this 3ds, it goes black and then brings me to the shutdown menu. I tried system formatting the console to see if it would help, but to no avail. I tried going through the process to remove all cfw from the 3ds, but one of the first steps required me to open a DS menu or something.

After following some guides online by TurdPooCharger, something did change. Now when I try to open a DS/DSiware application, it shows a black screen that states "An error has occurred./ Press and hold the POWER Button to turn the system off./ Please refer to the Operations Manual for details."

If there is any way to get ds software to work on my 3DS once again, I wold like to know the process for repairing this issue.

Thank you for your time,

When you have a flat on your car, throwing away the spare tire and the tools to change the broken one, is not the way to deal with it.
Good that the uninstall guide now contains a bunch of checks before actual uninstallation. That should prevent a lot of trouble.

We have had some severe cases (not solved) of bricked DS(i) mode in the past.

Did you already try the obvious, running TWLFix-CFW followed by an online update?

I wasn't able to go through with uninstallation so nothing particularly changed luckily.
To answer your question, yes. I tried that three different times I believe to no avail.

@Sono is there a way to tell why and when TWLFIRM fails?
I have some blurred memory that you might have looked into that.

Try a battery pull just in case. Open the back and remove the battery for 5-10 minutes. Put it back in and correct the time + date. Then try to boot a DS game.

Well the shutdown screen issue sounds like something borked TWLMCU, even though that flag is supposed to be cleared by something (Home Menu perhaps?).

As for why the error screen shows, we'd have to run my diagnostic program, as the error screen shows for so very few cases, that I don't even know (yet) what could trigger it. Errors usually result in a hang or a black screen, not the error screen.

I once uploaded my diagnostic program in a thread with broken DS mode, I just have to find it somehow...

Yeah, a battery pull must have fixed the shutdown screen issue for sure, unless there is some deeper problem which is kind of impossible.

Try deleting the _nds folder (backing up important content) and boot9strap, then run the twilight menu installer and install it and boot9strap
