Why do we even care about smealums exploit when Gateway's is much better?

Because showing appreciation for someone who's clearly put a LOT of hard work into something for other people is the nice thing to do.

Great write-up smealum. Embedded engineer here so it made for a very interesting read for me.

Anyways, without Smea, there wouldn't be much of a 3DS scene.

No, not really. The only thing I use that he created is a terribly limited "Homebrew" library. On its own, it's practically useless.

The one piece of software on my 3DS that takes advantage of this is a sub-par FTP application. Without it, I would barely be wasting time having to take the SD out whenever I need to move small files.

So yeah, I guess I can give him some credit. For that, and enabling piracy. :)

Ah yes, I love how people bash Smea solely based off the fact his launcher doesn't allow ROM loading  People don't give him the respect he deserves, but rather would kiss Gateway's ass instead because they allow ROMs, Cubic Ninja does not , that's the impression I'm getting. C'est la vie.

Summary of current 3DS Scene: Suck up to Gateway for ROM loading, bash Smea for not allowing ROM loading. What does this translate to? The current Temp mentality :creep:

Keep it classy, Temp, keep up the bashing, I'm sure developers enjoy it.

So just because you personally only use one homebrew that makes all 3ds homebrew worthless. Don't be stupid.

I expected nothing less from a GW sycophant. There's no reasoning with Smea-bashers, especially on GatewayTemp GBA Temp, they only bash people like him because, one, it's a much cheaper solution than a Gateway (cheapest being $55-60), two, it doesn't load ROM "backups", and three, they have no substantiated evidence to back up their claim. Typical.

Nice how people focus on talking about the same kind of bullshit that is spewed everytime smealum is mentioned instead of actually discussing the relevant info.

Are you guys talking about using the browser exploit for executing unsigned code without a gateway? I'd love to use homebrew without paying $60 to the pirate mafia, and buying cubic ninja is out of question for me now.

Kek, I've been here only a few days, and I have noticed his name is either worshiped or despised.

Anyway, the idea is to execute spiderhax to execute rohax to gain full code execution under spider. The only problem is that spider has extremely limited RAM privilege, so he said it'd be best to use spider to take over Mii Plaza, as they are both applets. A tedious, annoying process, but free, yes.

but free, yes.
Love that word

But yeah, lately everyone's salivating over gateway so the warez doods aren't really giving two fucks about free homebrew anymore.

Btw - by "full code execution" you mean kernel access? I'm not very knowledgeable (currently... but working on it), just an enthusiast. I do understand what you mean after reading the write-up though.

Implying Smea would want people to have full kernel access.

I'm almost completely sure that spider doesn't have kernel access, no.

And for those who do wish to bash developers for wanting to make free homebrew, can keep their unsubstantiated ad hominem or otherwise unwarranted "opinions" to themselves or on the EOF. That would make these threads a better place ;)

As far as gbatemp at large is concerned, whatever/whoever that enabled firmware downgrade deserves the props this round. Anything else they can resolve themselves over a fist fight

Thank you smea for all hard work. Guys/leechers/n00bz like json and huntereb are sadly very common at gbatemp. It's like talking to a wall so I will not even bother.

If you had any idea what Hunter can do you would wish you hadn't called him a n00b, have fun on mk7 online :P
