I work at night. Exclusively at night.
I was curious if anyone else here is employed in such a manner and in what capacity they are employed.
Perhaps experiences could be shared and theories validated.

    enjoy

My seasonal work was at a Halloween haunted house. It was cold, miserable and then HOT and sweaty. I swear I drank more energy drinks than anything else during my seasonal work than anything healthy.

I also had shitty sleeping habits after that, because we would routinely be up until 2:00 am. (And that was after removal of makeup and all that jazz.)

I start work at 7pm and then work for twelve hours.
I have done this now for a year.
Caffeine pills usually help me, but after a few days your body gets used to them and you build up an immunity to their effects.
That's when it gets really, really bad.
I used to work over 250 hours of night-shift a month.
From now on i only work about 120.
I now work less than half a month and should end up with something close to 1.300 usd.
Which is absolutely fine with me.
I only want to do this until i can study medicine anyway.

We would get into costume/rehearsal at around 6:30 pm, and we are just mandated to take 2 breaks of 15 minutes each. (Work laws here.) It was a sucky job because of how physical it is - it's a whole lot of running around and even staying in character takes energy (my character had a fully body maniac laugh). What is really telling was how much muscle rub everyone went through. I made my own with cayenne pepper, essential oils, and powdered ginger, and went through two honey jars full of the stuff.

Most of my coworkers were on drugs (mostly weed and alcohol), but the only things I consumed were sugar and caffeine. (I won't be able to perform on booze OR weed!)

Luckily, it was just extra pocket money - although I think I'd do it again this season, but at least I have a bloody smartphone to call an Uber to get home with.

Most of my colleagues have issues either with amphetamines or cocaine.

I am not a big fan of cocaine and amphetamines this often would ruin my body and mind more than the night-shift itself already does.

I couldn't even guess why someone would wish to consume weed or alcohol tho. Those make you even more tired.

I have played in 24 hour factory/foundries before, though it seems others were into their night shifts so that was never me and I mainly just was there for the overlap/handoff. Likewise I have building work at night, been in care homes enough to know they are 24 hour places and various website or other sorts of work had to be done at night. Equally I have stayed up all night pulling things apart and fixing them. Similarly I have come at it the other way and woken up at 2am/3am to go do things. Also if it counts I went nocturnal one year for fun/to get out of the heat.

Other than the nocturnal thing then in all those cases it was never continuously over weeks or something. I imagine it would have to be some serious money for me to bother with that (as in one month in, rent and food taken care for the next 11). As it stands most seem to earn a 50% premium at best and that is not enough for me to bother -- some people do like the money or were foolish enough to have kids or get a mortgage and thus have a true need for such things.

Can't stand caffeine, which is not so bad as I seem to be able to push through it for about 36-48 hours (though I am not on top form towards the end, I suppose this is why they teach double checking and such like) and just catch up some time later in the month. Similarly I seem to be able to awaken and be wide awake 2 seconds later.

I'm in the same hole. In theory we're supposed to rotate, but in practice we're stuck in one shift until someone requests a transfer or something major happens, because scheduling is a hassle HR would rather avoid.
I did 6 months in night shift, 5 days a week, 11PM to 7AM. Came for the brownie points, stayed for the money, but it was a fucking wreck. I coasted by on a bare minimum of work required, got by on Monster energy drinks (Their Rehab line is pretty good), and lost the will to live. Night shift is not for me. On the other hand a colleague there can't stand regular daytime shifts (with much the same symptoms) and begs to stay in the night shift. It really depends from person to person.

I am a "baker" for Dunkin Donuts. My job consists of going in at 3:30am to bake all the necessary foods before the store opens, as well as put all the donuts and foods on the main display shelves too. My shifts don't last long, usually anywhere from 3:30 to 7 or 8, and very rarely til 9 or 10

I only get like 1-3 hours of sleep before work, and when I get home I sleep the rest off. My sleep schedule is actually pretty decent and I enjoy my job for the most part so all is well :)

I worked 3rd shift for three years. 10 pm to 6 am serving tables. Seen some of the craziest shit in my life during those years. Haha

Yeah, i know how it feels. I don't want to do anything but night-shift either. Onnly had two morning-shifts in an entire year.
The pay is better, thats true. Thats one of the reasons i enjoy it.
But there is more to it than just that. I am basically a bouncer, just instead of constantly protecting the gates to a lub, i do the same thing for hospitals.
Very rarely does anyone want to start some nonsense in front of a hospital, especially at night.
So most of the time i get paid the big bucks for doing nothing but wearing a vest that protects against bladed weapons and my uniform.
So sometimes all i do all night is either lean against the door playing with my phone or sitting on a little desk playing 3DS and reading forums.

I work mid shift 4-12am/2am. Just last week there were people beating each other up because a baby wouldn't stop crying. Gotta love living in the middle of redneck/gangs banger territory.. I'm surprised they didn't try to kill each other like every other fight out here

It's not that bad if you don't draw attention to your self. Where I live is right in the middle of pretty much everything bad out here. The county is one of the largest meth and heroine dealing areas, constant gang (or as I call them, idiots with guns) issues, several homocides with in a span of 30 days, oh and let's not forget about the people who are pedophiles that haven't registered with the state. I see all of those types of people come into the restaurant I work as a dish washer at. It's starting to get crazy there with people that are constantly starting problems, harassing the servers, trying to steal from us. So yeah.
