Hello gbatemp!

I have not posted here since the heyday of dreamcast hacking and homebrew.
I will be getting an unpatched switch next week and intend to mess with cfw/ homebrew/ etc..
I have already ordered a jig, a microsd card and an RCM-X86 chip.

When it is all said and done, I would like to have a switch that has no external signs of modifications and that doesn't require a jig or dongle to boot CFW and can also boot into OFW for online gaming and such.

1. What is the best setup for this dual-boot goal?
2. Will I always need the jig?
3. How exactly does AUTO-RCM work and do I need it?
4. Do i need to be concerned about e-fuses?
5. Whats the best way to keep the CFW hidden from the OFW to avoid bans and such?

I am entirely comfortable with any and all extra soldering that may be required.

Can someone kindly point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

1. Modchip with RCM strap.
2. Nope (depends on how you want to set it up tho).
3. It pretty much bricks your NAND (overwrites few bites) so that your switch thinks it is really bricked and thus boots into RCM. You don't need it if you have modchip with RCM strap.
4. Only if you want to downgrade in the future (because coldboot might be a thing). But with modchips, you usually don't care about that.
5. EmuNAND which is currently only possible with SX OS. But a free solution is very close as well.

This might help you considering the modchip.

Actually, that free solution is most likely releasing tomorrow

I would go with atmosphere. the guide for atmosphere is at https://switchgui.de
I ordered jigs off of ebay.

I started hacking my switch about 6 months ago.
I do not go with mod chip till much later. I went with trinket m0 and Arduino IDE.
