Hi I am on 1.81 vita and I already bought Gravity Crash for the lastest exploit mention on wololo.net. Is there anything else I need to do before I hack the psvita? I heard you need a special program for Content Manager Assistant to block oncoming updates?

Yes, you need OpenCMA, which is a modified version of Sony's Content Manager Assistant that has been decoupled from Sony's network (and hence won't force you to upgrade to the latest FW or block the use of exploits).

Once you get it installed, backup Gravity Crash so that if you ever have to reset your Vita you can reload the game, as it would be the only way to reload the game once Sony pulls it from the store. Beyond that there's nothing you need to do until the exploit is released in a couple of days.

I have a question, and I apologize for intruding in another thread about it. I haven't followed the Vita scene, and I know this is just for PSP-level games, but is there anything extra I'll need besides CMA and the files coming out in a few days? And how well is the PSP level hacking on Vita? For example, could I actually play games never released on PSN on the Vita, like Kingdom Hearts and Crisis Core?

EDIT: Also, if you have this exploit, does this mean as long as you have the game available to pull off the exploit, does the firmware still play a role? Like say a firmware update comes up but I still have the exploitable game. Can I still execute the exploit?

So what Sony does to combat it is remove the game and block the exploit? I thought they simply removed the game from PSN because people can freely use exploits on their own as long as they have the game to exploit. Why not just patch the system to prevent the exploit with that game? Seems overkill to take down products on PSN if you patch the hole.

It's a two-step process:

1) Temporarily remove the exploitable game from the PSN store. This is easy to do and will keep anyone else from acquiring it to use the exploit.

2) Patch out the exploit in the next firmware update. This takes longer to code and validate (hence the reason for #1), but once this is done Sony will push out the new firmware and restore the exploitable game to the PSN, now that it can no longer be exploited.

Ah, I see. So if they patch the newest exploit, either I have to stick with the older firmware or hope an all new one presents itself? It's not as easy as something like updating a DS flash card for 3DS, is it? You know, having an exploit, updating it on older firmware to work on the new, and then updating the firmware? Seeing as the hack is PSP-level stuff, I'm assuming it works similarly.

Correct. These are all software exploits (so far), which means they can be patched. With the DS, PSP, etc, those are primarily hardware exploits that will always exist and can't be fixed.

There have usually been very short-lived work-arounds to access the PSN using charlesproxy, but they don't seem to work as well for the Vita as they do the PS3.
