New Super Mario Bros Wii is making the jump from the Nintendo Wii to arcades, and trading Wii Remotes for joysticks and jackpots.

Dubbed Super Mario Bros Wii: Coin World, the game is being reborn as a four player “medallion game”. Medallion games are arcade games in which players try to hit the jackpot and win coin medals. The object in this Mario incarnation is spinning and matching slots, not hopping on turtles.

Nintendo is no stranger to medal games, but it’s Capcom who typically does the arcade medallion games for Nintendo’s games.

It's a really Japan-specific type of arcade table. You see these things more in arcades in big family shopping malls than in Akihabara and game centers. They are generally targeted towards children but some rare adults get into them. Moms will guide their kids through it etc.

There are various types of medallion games so I'm not sure how it will play. It sure won't be a platformer.

Seems like a minigame collection where the four of you battle or something. You also have to rely on luck for the most part. Not Mario Party-like, idk how to describe it.

Medal games are alot of fun! You can play it for hours long, as long as you have enhough medals

You can win medals, but you'll throw them back into the machine anyways. If you can find a cheap arcade youll get about 350 medals for 2500~3000 yen, and if you even more lucky a "100 Extra Medals" coupon falls in your medal bucket when buying new medals in the medal dispenser

On the other hand, it's a useless investment, because you can't win anything, but medals. Sure is a lot of fun though

Capcom has been making these machines for a long time now, in fact, they already did serveral Mario medal game's. This is one of my faves and I've spent hours on that thing. You can also actually win many medals on this one, which makes it more fun

So these "medals" are basically tokens that are purchased to play games and win more "medals" but the medals cant be used for anything else but to play more games.

From the website It looks like there are many of these Capcom Plaza:New York all over Japan.
