i would still like to know what can possible take up 2.2gb's in this "minor update" it was supposed to be just amiibo data for corrin bayo and cloud right? SKETCH

Because Nintendo is full of programmers who don't know the difference between their arse and a hole in the ground. Clearly.

Well, I got the 8 GB Wii U, so I may be screwed. I got that because I use USB for my games. So yeah, I'm screwed.

Gee, thanks, Nintendo.

I may have to make a "backup" on my USB HDD just so I can play it.

Not really a cure when you're cursed with the 8 GB model and have no choice but to go to USB.
Not having enough space doesn't mean that using NNU Patcher to download game updates isn't a solution. That's an entirely different problem.
It's a problem even for 32 GB model users, the Wii U just doesn't have enough space. You almost always have to get a USB HDD for the Wii U. Just one game alone such as Xenoblade Chronicles or Smash bros can take up more than half the 32 GB model system.

Since you're an 8 GB model user, you definitely need a USB HDD.

Saying that NNU Patcher is not a cure is nonsense

Is it possible to at least transfer my save data on the HDD before I install the game itself? Then I install the USB game, then update, and then I should be good, right?

Yes you can do that. Or you can install to USB HDD first, then move the save from NAND to USB HDD. Either way it won't be hard migrating to a USB HDD and living the same life as any other 32 GB model user with an HDD.
Having a 8 GB model isn't bad at all, you're going to need a USB HDD even with a 32 GB model system.

Which is funny because I didn't need a USB HDD all that much until recently. Why Nintendo bothered releasing an 8 GB model is beyond me. Granted, I wanted to save money, and I didn't want Nintendo Land.

I don't trust installing the game first, I'll merely copy over the save then install the game in case. Damn you, Nintendo.

i have everything installed to nand, game>dlc>update and now it just gives me the notification "preparing update" then error code 105-4206 unable to connect to server i am using custom dns even though i have it installed already... weird. Has anybody gotten the jnus 1.1.7 update to work?

edit:2 now my dlc is corrupted lol wtf!?

I still wonder why, when I'm the first to make threads, no one ever notices them.

I already have haxchi and I'm on 5.5.1
I care about playing smash 4 online
Should I just update to 5.5.2 and update the game normally, or should I spoof and use NNU patcher?
What are the pros and cons?
I don't care about browserhax if I already have haxchi

Fuckit. I updated to 5.5.2 and updated smash the legal way to 1.1.7
No reason to jump through hoops when I don't rely on, and never use, browserhax
Everything working

It's been 1 day since 5.5.2, and mere hours since 1.1.7 for smash ("cumulative update") what's the rush?

A solution will come if you have patience.

You know, with only 486 MB of available NAND space, it's difficult to see how any kind of solution would mitigate that, barring me installing the game and update data to USB. It's asinine. 2.2 GB is a bit much. Unless there's a way to spoof the game's update into thinking it's 1.1.7 without wasting 2 GB or some lousy Amiibo update.... *sigh* The urgency spawns from the fact I have a friend in the UK who likes playing Smash, and I don't want to let him down.

running nnu patcher allowed me to download the 1.1.7 update through menu even with custom dns and on un-updated wii-u, downloaded and installed just fine, finally back online!

I have an 8gb wii u too, and for Zelda BOTW I had to use a 16gb USB stick until the very latest update came out with the first DLC pack: and it wouldn't all fit on the stick.

The solution: a bigger stick.

I know it sucks having to pay out for more space to store games, but its a sad fact of the way the industry is going that games get bloated up with updates, DLC, and fixes that cause the end user to squirm to get it all working.

An 8gb console was a terrible idea in the first place.

There won't be a solution to the space thing, but a solution for going online without losing 5.5.1 could be just around the corner.

Not gonna lie, I'm on that fence right now.

You're gonna' have to do a whole lot of house keeping to update the Wii U with that much storage left, although it could be small enough to fit in that left over free space.

I have three USB hard drives, I have a 500 GB one that I used in the past to install USB games and updates to, yes, so I can use that. I'm going to backup my Smash Bros install, transfer the save to the HDD and then install the game itself, then the update. I hope Nintendo gets an influx of complaints about this cumulative update on their Twitter. 8 GB be damned.

Currently impossible, unless I delete the other Smash Bros data, which is 2.5 GB, not sure how much of that is actually save data. Unless I can click on that and see how much of that is actually necessary, and keep the save data.
