Another silly question I'm sure has been answered before, but here goes anyway. What exactly does the 3DS Update change? Does it change things on the 3DS or things on the SD Card?

Is it possible that if I have 2 3DS' to use my SD Card from my hacked 3DS in the other 3DS and update that? Or will that change things on the SD card so when I put it back into my hacked 3DS I won't be able to use menuhax anymore?

Thanks for the help :)

EDIT: If I can't do this, can I still safely use Menuhax and play region free games on 10.5?

Nintendo never uses the SD card without permission (e.g. playing a game, using an application, or other service that has read/write access).
Updates are stored on the console, not the SD card.

However, the SD card is linked to your device, so if you put it on the other 3DS it won't be able to use it without formatting it IIRC. If you open up your SD card's files, on the root you'll see a 'private' folder, which is where contents are stored. The folder is created by the 3DS when 'setting up', and is specific to your system nand.

If you can access homebrew on 10.5, sure you can play out-of-region games using Hans.

I see, so I couldn't use another 3DS to update, download the smash bros updates, then just put it back in mine and have Smash working fine with the newest updates?

I ask because I can't get the eshop spoof to work on 10.3, I've been told using NVer helps but I have no clue how to get that to work or where to even start with NVer, I'm not very tech savvy, it's amazing I got this far haha.

Also how do you use Hans for out of region games? The HBL has a Region Free Launcher there and I thought I just had to use that.

Sorry I'm a total noob, but I've spent almost a hundred dollars on Japanese games and can't back down now xD

If you have access to cfw on the 3ds you want to update smash on you can just manually install the update via cia installation. Do you know how to do that?/have access to a cia installer?

EDIT: I believe the region-free app in the starter package works just fine. All you have to do is plug in the out of region cart or rom then press the region-free launcher and target said cart/rom and it'll do the work from there. At least that's what I imagine it does.

I had no idea you could do that, but if I can do something like that it takes a pretty big weight off my shoulders worrying about things xD

Ya it's a really simple and easy process. Not sure if it's against the rules to link sites with game updates in cia format but if you google '3ds game update cia' your bound to find it :yay3ds:

Is the only way to install cia's with menuhax is with NASA? Because I've heard it can brick your system and as someone who generally has no clue what they are doing and are terrible with tech stuff this is something I'm really scared of since I can't afford another 3DS yet x_x

You can brick your system with a bad cia, but it's rare to get a bad cia from "that iso site" . If your installing to sysnand I wouldnt go wild installing cias from random places.

If your installing to emunand (best bet) then it doesn't matter, worst you can do is brick your emunand and in that case just format it and start over.

there are other installers such as FBI and BBM

nasa is aimed for 9.3+ -10.3 systems
