Hardware New 3DS XL brightness issue

What hardware controls screen brightness? I recently reconstructed a New 3DS XL that has dual IPS screens using a new motherboard and power board, and I found my screens to be noticeably dimmer than my smaller New 3DS, even with max brightness and power-conserving settings turned off. I attached some photos for comparison. Does anyone know what the culprit may be? Is it a voltage issue, a color temperature issue, or something else?

They're both dual IPS.

Welp, even though I got no replies, I may as well write an update for whoever may end up being in my situation. Basically, if you accidentally break the motherboard or power board of a dual-IPS 3DS, it's a pain in the *ss to find a proper replacement. Otherwise, it either doesn't boot or the maximum brightness is dimmer than it's supposed to be.

Basically, if you accidentally break the motherboard or power board of a dual-IPS 3DS, it's a pain in the *ss to find a proper replacement. Otherwise, it either doesn't boot or the maximum brightness is dimmer than it's supposed to be.

A possibility why your IPS screens are very dark is because the motherboard you have are calibrated to use TN panels. In the [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND, there are two files called HWCAL0.DAt and HWCAL1.DAt that control and fine tune those displays. Having those missing will just give a baseline default setting. Having dissimilar LCDs to what the mobo is expecting will throw off lighting, colors, refresh rate, etc.

You'll have to borrow those DAt files from a n3DXL that came with dual IPS, and you can't ask to have them shared here due to forum ToS.

That's actually what I figured, because I eventually bought a second motherboard and it had the proper brightness. Whereas the first one I bought was pre-flashed with CFW, so what you wrote is very likely the explanation.

Can you guide me through this, please. I have the same problem, I have 2 new 3ds xl, one have both TN and the other have upper IPS. The Ips one have a dimmer screen than the other
