the problem is outdated exploit- it was for 9.5, not 10.1. just update it.
1. run sysnand (not the HB launcher)
2. via some other exploit, like ninjhax or somthing, run HBlauncher
3. re-install the themehax, now choosing the right version (10.1 NEW)
it fixed mine N3DS!

Well he obviously can't do any of that since all his 3DS does is greeting him with a black screen when he turns it on. I wouldn't think unscrewing the backplate is that much of a hassle.
The question is: what did he update? Sysnand or emunand? afaik emunand > 9.5 is not supported on the n3ds at all. he might need to remove the emunand partition on his SD card.
Backup your folders and format Emunand again. The max firmware for a New 3DS is 9.5.0-23.
according to http://www.3dsdb.com/ "Paper Jam" for Europe and Japan have 10.1 on the game card.

Not really, since GW and rxTools use different Launcher.dat files. Gateway won't notice that you're using rxTools.
