It's not like I don't want to have girls special "girl" versions of games, but do they really need it? I mean, I don't care about the gender of the character I'm playing - I'm a guy and I like to play as Samus Aran, I like to play as Link - so what? Where's the problem that makes them release a "special girl version"? In my opinion this is more discriminating than not doing it.

Imagine the marketing possibilities (like somebody already said):
Pokemon Brown for Boys
Pokemon Grey for Girls
...

What if you've got two children, a boy AND a girl? ARRGH...

Anyway, I don't think that there's "discrimination", everyone plays as what he/she gets, we play as Samus or Mario, or Link etc, but in a game that has marriage in its objects I think it's better to have boy and girl version. It could be strange to you if you have to try to marry another boy, right? And I think for girls it is a satisfaction, because ,male chars are more common than girls in videogames. So, this is just as localization, most of all can play the game in English but to have a game (expecially with a lot of text, an an excellent translation like Mario&Luigi) is better

I heard that also Harvest Moon for GC will have a girl version, that will be released around the summer 2004.

well this game is different than metroid , the way metroid fusion is samus may as well be a man. Harvest moon is a special case because in it you are a guy and you have to tune girls and eventually get married , your gender is a big part of the game unlike metroid and i geuss us guys are suposed to feel like we are actually scoring when we finally get to marry one of the girls in the game. The makers want the girls to have the satisfaction of tuning a guy in the game as well

. Think about it , whould you like to play a game where you are a girl and you need to attract a man ?
