Quick question, I have this router with WEP security, is it just simple case of putting the access key into the DS?

Yes.

Unless you have the "the WEP key is provided to me automatically by network" option selected (on the router), in which case it won't work.

But if you have a fixed key, just enter it into the DS and you're all set

I've had the wep key setup on the netgear. The only thing I don't like is I have to broadcast the SSID, the DS won't pick my wifi signal otherwise.

If you use MAC filtering, you will have to add your DS's MAC address to your router.
