The article shows how Days of Thunder, unreleased NES game got reconstructed from 30 Year old 5.25” floppy disk.
The family from the late programmer of the game, Chris Oberth (1953-2012) worked with the Video Game History Foundation, who pulled the data from all the floppies in the collection.

Hard drive backups in that timeframe? Nice. I consider it a rare treat if we get that today from ? hundred thousand pound projects/commissions (though send us your VM is an increasingly common requirement, which I am delighted by). Even a copy of the installer for the program used to make something is a bit of an ask sometimes.

Curious that such a place did not have PC hardware of that vintage as well and had to go to a third party. That or my collection is better than I thought (which I did not think it was at all). Sure you will probably never get a nice IBM thing sporting a 486DX-100 for not a lot but something surely should still be out there and doing enough that it can sit in a corner somewhere.

Nice bit of tech as well. Yet to really get my hands dirty with vintage PC stuff but it looks about what I would imagine it to be.
