Instead of fixing up my NES which would break again anyway or buying a NES 2 which cost a lot of money I have decided to get a NES to USB converter. Problem is the cheapest one I can get is 50 dollars. I know I could make one but I do not feel like destroying a nes just for a controller port. Any sites that sell it cheap?

and dont do retrozone they have bad services

Expensive as well. Didn't know about the bad service though, sent an email once and they did seem kind of annoying...

EDIT: 52 dollars with shipping on eBay is the cheapest I can find.

35 dollars for a NES to USB is a bit pricy and that is with out shipping...

FAST: Talked to my electronics teacher today and he said it meets the criteria for my electronics project(needs to have PIC that I program). Seems I can make this in electronics class but I have to get the PIC my self (12AUD for 5 on eBay). I just need to find a broken NES or SNES that is cheap or cheap replacement controller ports. Using these plans by the way link. Know any cheap places for replacement controller ports. Had a bit of a look already and most don't ship down here or cost too much.

My bad, I thought you were just going to make a simple adapter and solder a USB port/similar on the controller either in place of the original or as a splice.

Alas whenever I need ports I either standardise the plug as above or someone likely has something wasting space in a box and will give it to me or I have some plastics manufacturing kit.

Easiest way I can see is to make one using some casting material and inserting an existing end. While I can not speak for Australia I know electronics here in Europe and the US are greatly impressed with packaging and this very much counts as making your own. Also you can always make a kludge of a port (working but not so sturdy) and replace it as and when you obtain a snes/nes to cannibalise.

One further idea is you take your working nes/snes and simply solder or otherwise connect wires to the points where the nes/snes joins the motherboard of the nes/snes

I was thinking of getting a thick bit of wood and cutting into it, and then getting pins and setting them in nicely so the majority of the NES plug is in so it does not wiggle. It wouldn't look pretty but it would let me use my NES controller again until I find a good source for NES and SNES controller ports.
