OK, gona try these steps. I'm just not sure how I would do the 3rd step. I installed the IOS 236, is that it? If not, could you give me more details on how I could do that step?

OK, I went through all the steps Foxi4 told me. Still no luck, it doesn't work at all.

USB Loader GX doesn't recognize the USB drive when I launch the app with the drive already connected. And when I connect the drive while the count-down is going on, it stops counting for a second, then continue counting until it reaches 0.

Wiiflow 224, 249 and 250 do not recognize my USB drive either (neither FAT32, neither NTFS). What is strange is that the version 222 and 223 refuses to launch (black screen).

Here are the results of syscheck:

Before Foxi4 procedure:

try wiiflow. Try using a usb flash drive.

But best guess is that the hard drive is the culprit.

Already tried 2, same results.

QUOTE(Krestent @ Jan 10 2011, 08:08 PM) Install cIOS rev20. Rev16 is outdated.

I used that before, same results.

Basically, in the end, ModMii is sooooooooo noob friendly that you would have to have an IQ < 50 for you to make a mistake and your wii get bricked.

Have you met smashdude yet?

OT: Ooh, this is like 20 questions, fun. Does HBC Homebrew Filter recognize the USB devices? How are the drives formatted and partitioned? Are they done GPT-style or MBR-style?

Huhuhuh...MBR-style...that sounds dirty, Beavis.

Edit: Try this, just for the hell of it. Try to mount the disk [huhuhuh...you said mount] with each IOS. Load up MMM, Dop-Mii, wad manager or w/e and for each IOS, load it and attempt to browse the disk. On which does it work, and which does it fail?

Try installing each rev 17+ of Wanin's cIOS, using IOS 236 and wads from Modmii. Test each one and see which work with Wiiflow or CFG USB Loader (there are like 4 different bulids, -222 etc).

I got to the conclusion that the problem is somehow with my hardware. I don't have time nor patience to continue trying to restore it, I'll just use my SDHC. The size is quite limited (8 GB), but at least it works.

Thank you all for your help!

I know you said you don't have the time or patience, but what hardware is the issue? The hard drive or the wii? Is your USB port messed up? Is HBC able to see apps that are installed on the hard drive?

If you don't want to screw around with it anymore then thats fine and I'll let this thread die, but I figured I might as well try to help solve this one more time.

I can only think that the problem lies on the Wii hardware. Something wrong with my USB port. But HBC sees the apps installed on my flash drive (the hard drive is NTFS formated, I think that's the reason why HBC does not recognize the external hdd). MPlayer-CE used to recognize the external hdd too, play videos from it, but now it doesn't.

But if you got any idea that doesn't rely on installing ciosx 222, 223, 224, 247, 248, 249 and/or 250, be my guest. Because I don't think any change on the rev would change a thing. But I'm no expert, so...

I think I'm gonna still try to get a working Wii to do a NAND backup.

I've told you not to do that.

This is what you need to do. Format your usb hard drive to FAT32. You can use modmii to download FAT32, or even just run the USB Loader setup wizard (different from the normal wizard on the current version).

NTFS sucks horribly. Even if all you have is ISO files then Wii Backup Manager (which also can be downloaded through modmii) can convert all your ISO's to a FAT32 capable format while removing all the garbage data from the ISO so you save even more space for even more games.

So yeah, use FAT32 and wiiflow.

No matter what, converting a NAND will still result in the same issues with the hard drive.

I don't use my hardrive just for the Wii, that's wh I didn't want to format it to FAT32. But I'll do it as a last resource. If it doesn't work the way it is now, I'm gonna install the lastest ciosx and experiment with the USB loaders.

Don't bother with rev 21, theres not that much useful to it. I'm still on rev 19 and I am very happy with it. Wiiflow is great, but you will need to be on FAT32.

Using FAT32 is way better. The only limitation if you can't put a file bigger than 4gb on a FAT32 partition. But honestly, how often are you putting files that are > 4gb on that hard drive? And with FAT32 it can be used on linux and mac too. Seriously, forget about NTFS. If you REALLY need a drive with NTFS then buy a second hard drive and keep one strictly for the wii.

Some of you may laught at what I'm going to write now... but I'll write it anyway.

Try a different USB cable. Yes, defective cables will be recognized by a PC, but not by the Wii. I got my USB HDD case with a cable that worked perfectly well, but it refused to work with the Wii. It took me hours of re-configuring before I simply tried out a different cable... and guess what? Success. Changing the cable fixed all my problems.

If you need a sure-fire configuration, try this:

cIOS 249 revision 19, 20 or 21, base IOS 56
cIOS 250 revision 19, 20 or 21 base IOS 57
cIOS 222 revision 5.1 base IOS 38
cIOS 223 revision 5.1 base IOS 37

Before installing those, clear the slots with Dop-Mii. Every single Wii in existance is able to support USB loading, you're clearly doing something wrong. If USB Loader GX doesn't work for you, WiiFlow probably will.

And dont use an extension cable.

My HDD came with a 6 inch cable. Works fine with the extension (2 foot). (Drive is also usb powered, btw). Put a 1 foot cable on the drive and used it with the extension, drive just blinks and beeps. Works fine on my pc with just the longer cable. Took out the extension from the Wii and it works fine again -.-

Update: formatted my hdd to FAT32, installed the last cios as suggested by Foxi4, changed the cable (tried 3). Still no luck.

HBC tries to recognize my hdd. With 2 of the 3 cables, on the "config page" (pressing 1 on HBC), the USB button lights a while after I attach the hdd, but then becames unavailable again.

Wiiflow 222, 223 and 224 still don't start, and 249 and 250 don't recognize the hdd (stays on the image telling to attach the hdd to the Wii).

DopMii crashes when I use the SysCheck. It tests some IOSes, but then I get a crashing screen.

Any other sugestion?
