I recently got a new PC and I've noticed although it's pretty good the way it is for running games it needs a couple of changes so that I'm going to be able to keep it longer.

Here are the specs:
AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor
CPU speed is
3.8 GHz

RAM: 8.2 GB
OS: Microsoft Windows 8 Professional Edition (build 9200), 64-bit
Video Card: nVidia GeForce GT 610
Sound Card: NVIDIA High Definition Audio
And 885.0 GB free disk space, my hard drive is actually 1 TB

Basicallywhat I want to do is replace the video card by buying a different nVidia card that's going to be able to run games like Planet Side 2, I've recently discovered that the GT 610 is actually quite a low end card, so I'm thinking of replacing it but that's what I need help with.

Because I'm not really all that smart when it comes to computer upgrades I'd just like to know which video card I should aim for. Also if someone could list a couple of good SSD's that'd be great as well because I am looking into getting one of those.

Thanks in return, sorry if this post is a little messy.

If you're completely set on getting an SSD--the only question I'd have is, what is your PSU?

(I was playing on an FX-4100 OC'd to 4.1 on stock, from Dec '11-Dec'12, and it held up fairly well for most PC titles. )

Biggest bottleneck for gaming is GPU, then CPU.

CPU portion is okay if you overclock it. However, I am guessing that PC is OEM (HP, Dell, Acer, etc). What is your screen resolution?

For gaming, his CPU's not low-end at all, it's well past the requirements of almost any PC game (barring outliers like Dwarf Fortress, but <1% of users on gbatemp here gives a shit about text-based games anyways).

The video card is the real killer for gaming.
I would say it's because of a bias against AMD.
On Topic: If you need an Nvidia GPU, grab at least a 640, a 650 for better results.
If you're fine with AMD, grab an old 6850 or a 7770 for decent budget gaming.
Just tell us your total budget for the SSD and the GPU, it'll help a lot.
Also, what are you going to put on the SSD? How much space do you need?

See you understand me xD.

I'm not intending to run every single brand new game on max settings I just need to be able to run them in the first place, hence why I need a new video card.

Well I'm intending to sell my Xbox 360 so I'd use the money from that on upgrades. I'd have about $250-$350 but I'd be able to find some extra money to help. My main priority right now is to get a video card though the SSD can come later if it needs to be.

Ok, I'd recommend a 7870 or 7850 on the AMD side.
On the Nvidia side, grab either a GTX 660 or 660ti.

On the SSD, you can pick Samsung for price and longevity or OCZ for performance and a short life. (With a higher price.)
If you're okay with it, can you tell me your PSU wattage? If it's 500w or more, then you should be set.

Is there anywhere I can find the PSU wattage? I know pretty much nothing about this sort of thing when it comes to upgrades etc.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze

    so..... yeah

we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
