Just a simple question, i'm on 3.0.1 fw right now, if i backup my nand now, and the in the future i update to 5 or more, can restore the 3.0.1 backup nand on it? Or i would have to back up the 5.x nand and then restore that?

Also, using sx os would be a problem if i backup a nand after using it on my switch? Is 3.0.1 pre sx os usage compatible to 3.0.1 post sx os usage?

From what I've heard it is possible to upgrade but you need to look into avoiding burning fuses to be able to downgrade again. The only issue is 4.0.0 or above I think the card reader is flashed which means if you downgrade it may not work at all. I'm not 100% on all this stuff but I'm likely along the right lines.

I don't want to upgrade, i just want to backup my nand in case of bricking, but i was wondering if 3.0.1 nand backup would be compatible with 5.x fw if i decide to upgrade(officially) in the future. Or if i need a 5.x nand to restore in case of brick.

You are 100% correct

If you upgrade to another major firmware, you will burn fuses when you upgrade. You will then need to make a new nand backup since you cannot restore to lower firmware without bypassing fuse checks (using CFW)

Ok pretty clear, so basically if i tried to restore a 3.0.1 nand would be like trying to downgrading, now i understand. So i need a nand backup of the new fw.

Thank you all.

Didn’t sx os new update prevent fuses from being burned when updating? Correct me if I’m wrong

Edit: seems sx os 1.1 added the ability to prevent fuses from being burned when updating to allow for future downgrades so that’s good news, hopefully atmosphere will have this...
