edit: what extras has it got Dave? I saw a crazy version where he sleeps too long and wakes up to find a destroyed London.
Directors cut. In the end of the film he has to take 6 drops to make him sleep to bring him back to his time period but in the directors cut he takes drop 3 twice because he hears a noise that spooks him. I have the special edition with the directors cut on my shelf bitch.


There's actually 3 different cuts of the film. There's the cinema cut (this one had the S-Mart ending), the "Boomstick edition" directors cut and the Festival cut (these both had the London ending). When the film was first released Sam Raimi showed it was shown at various horror film festivals like the Fangoria ones. It contained a few more scenes with the skeletons, the bit where bad Ash rapes the girl is a little stronger, the bit with the mini Ashs in the windmill is slightly longer and the tone of the film is slightly darker. The festival version is also in 2.35 aspect ration instead of the 1.85 that the Boomstick edition is in, meaning you get quite alot of extra detail at the sides. The R3 MGM release is the Festival edition. Plus the quality of the R1/R2 picture on the Boomstick edition is terrible, it looks like it was a straight tape to disc conversion but the R3 version looks like a proper telecine transfer, it's crisp and clean. It's what makes me think that the missing scenes on the Boomstick edition aren't actually cuts (although the rape scene might be) but just parts where the print was too damaged in those parts and they removed them instead of cleaning them up.
