Hello. So essentially, when I try to use the FTPD Homebrew app, it will say "Started Server at [IP]:<port>", but when I try to connect through filezilla or any other program it timesout, as if there just isn't even a server to connect to.

For some years I have used this without issue, and a week ago it was just fine. But now it just does not work. I've tried looking into my network firewalls and settings, I've also tried to use my phone's hotspot which has worked in the past. Still nothing.

At this point I'd have just taken the SD card out, but I am using a New 3ds, and the screws for the back faceplate are stripped to hell. I just cannot unscrew it.

I would send error logs, but there just isn't anything to show. Other than a "Connection timeout". What could the problem be? My network seems to be fine, but maybe there is something I'm just totally missing. It feels like my 3ds FTPD app is just not actually doing what it says it's doing. And it's still confusing me with it not working on even the hotspot anymore.

Thank you.

Some things to consider:
- Both the pc and the 3ds have to be connected to the same wifi, if they're not make sure they are.
- on the 3ds side, on the ip settings make sure it's set to manual (instead of automatic) and enter one that's not taken by any other device in your home network.
As what info to put in Filezilla, just the ip address of the 3ds, and port (5000), and connect as "anonymous" unless it was changed on the 3ds side.

This might be relevant.

Thank you so much for the reply. Unfortunately, I have tried this. I could try again though, doesn't hurt. The last time we made sure to put a different IP and DNS, and made sure we were on the same wifi. I'll look through the thread you linked to, too. I find it so strange that this just suddenly stopped working.

Yeah, unfortunately it still did not work. I changed the IP and made sure the subnet and gateway was correct, along with my DNS. It's still able to connect to the internet, but I am unable to connect to the FTPD server. On the same wifi still.

Try with WinSCP, or with your phone. I had issues with Filezilla on pc too..
Been trying with both, no such luck still. :( I'm sorry for the bother, this is a really weird issue. I've made sure I'm on the same network still. Nothing seems to get through. I've also tried just the plain file browser on my computer, but no dice.

Does the 3DS web browser still work correctly?

Perhaps you can try directing it to a tiny web server running on your local network? (Not sure what the best option for that might be.)

If you mean like a hotspot, I have tried. I also tried what you suggested of using an ftp app on my phone, no results.

The 3ds web browser still works. What you're suggesting seems interesting, though I'm not sure how to go about it (am a little dumb with these things). If it's not too much of a trouble, could I ask you what I could do in regards to your suggestion

In the past, things like this happened when Windows auto-updated and somehow changed the firewall settings, but you said you were looking that already. Maybe your router is configured to auto-update as well?

Which ftp app were you trying to use on your phone?

I've never done it before; my first step would be to start Googling for something like "free tiny web server" or something.

I should clarify, I am using my mac laptop to connect my filezilla. I have tried it on my windows desktop too, but that has no wifi and is directly connected to the ethernet, so I do not know if I could even connect to it if it DID work.

The FTP app i used on my phone is called FTP Sprite. I saw somewhere on here that that's a good option.

I've run some commands in terminal on my mac, like trying to see what IP addresses are on the network I'm on. But my 3ds does not appear. I'm going to keep the custom ip I set up for my 3ds for the time being.

You have some kind of wifi router, don't you? Isn't your Windows desktop plugged into the same router?

Your router's config page should tell you the IP address of all connected devices. I don't know what you mean by "custom IP for your 3DS", but if that's changed, then that could be the problem. Doesn't ftpd tell you the IP address of the 3DS when it starts up?

My windows is only connected directly to the ethernet. By "custom IP", I meant in the settings menu. I am able to either have my DS auto-fill, or I can just put in a manual one.

FTPG does tell me the address, but I cannot connect to it no matter what I've tried so far.

Something I have been able to check, is I used the ARP command on my Mac terminal to see what IP's are connected to the Wifi. For a long time now, my 3DS's IP has not shown up. But suddenly, it did! However, the MAC address is instead replaced with a "(incomplete)".

(192.168.0.69) at (incomplete) on en0 ifscope [ethernet]

I looked online and it seems to mean that my Mac tried to reach out to figure out the 3ds's MAC address, but couldn't find it. Which means it cannot connect to it.

I'm unsure how to fix this.

My 3ds suffers from this too.
My workaround is following these steps:
open ftpd (doesn't work yet)
shut down wifi with the kill switch. ftpd complains, just ignore
start wifi
ftpd works now

Just tried this, doesn't work for me :( Thank you for the suggestion though! I'm still scratchin' my head at this.

Do you not have some kind of wifi router connected to your ISP one way or another?
I do. I'm looking at the settings now on my router. Not really finding anything useful. Tried to port forward or set up static routings to the 3ds but nothing. Weirdly, it's able to tell that my 3ds is connected, and it gives me the same IP the FTPD does on my 3ds. I am unable to connect, though.

I think I've hit a brickwall for now. I even tried to ask support from my internet provider, but that lead to nowhere. Everyone I know to seems to be dumbfounded on why this isn't working. Had a few friends really try to get into the grit with me since they knew more about these things, and even they have been scratching their heads.

One thing you could try, is try ftp'ing between your pc and phone and vice-versa, to confirm whether or not the issue is on the 3ds' side. I personally don't think it's not a network/internet related issue.
If the ftp works, on the 3ds is worth trying wiping all the settings regarding your wifi connection and starting from scratch. Go with a automatic ip address at first just to see if it'd work, and test again.

I'm sorry because my reply will not be very helpful, but unfortunately I've done this multiple times. Both going between PC and phone, and also restarting my 3ds's wifi settings. I cannot ping my 3ds at all through terminal or cmd prompt, which has been suggested by some people. I really don't know what's wrong.
