Hacking My "R" button is not functionally

My DSi "R" shoulder button won't work. It presses down and everything and makes the clicking noise, but my DSi won't recognize that I pressed it unless I slam it down several times. What can I do to fix this problem.

You can try the old DS Lite solution (which has worked for me on 2 different systems)-

1- place your mouth on the back of the DS where the shoulder button meets the system (the crack)
2- make sure your mouth is actually ON the system, and form your mouth as if you were whistling
3- blow as hard as you can into it, like you're playing an extremely clogged up horn
4- ???
5- profit

This worked in most cases with DS Lites, and i've heard of it working with DSi's as well. The trick is to blow very very hard directly into the crack of the button with your mouth directly on the DSi itself. There's dust in there apparently that can cause issues. It has fixed two of my old Lites before every time. May do it again, but this always fixes it for quite a while.

And please no jokes, i'm dead serious about this.

For those germaphobes out there, would a can of compressed air do the equivalent thing? There may be some modification to the straw needed, like make a mouth out of Play-Doh

Why wont you just send it to BigN?
Its a case of warranty.
You dont have any kind of homebrew channel installed - so dont worry. (I know there is no DSi HBC)

Yes, it would. It might actually do either worse or better depending on the pressure in the can.

a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol, shook to get rid of excess liquid, then rubbed around and on the button worked for me the other day. Still working!

Friggn' moist from our breath.

Ended up getting a DSi and suddenly
the top screen of my dsl worked

Now i'm using my dsi for the shoulder button uses..

Now I put it near a blowing thing, like an electric fan or ac... But it's not effective anymore

My L button is not working, the mouth trick works but is only a temporary solution, the problem comes back eventually. I bought a triwing screwdriver to eventually open it up and clean it -- anyone do this before?

If you blow the button solves the problem.
Sometimes it is dust that accumulates.

its just a flaw in the dsi design i guess.

It doesn't break forever. The moist dries away after some time

Yeah I realized the blowing thing was temporary...I plan to open it up (when i get a small enough screw) and clean it out and see if it works. At least I have some way to deal with it. It's been going on for awhile, but I never cared cause I never used the shoulder buttons like that, but then The Megaman Zero Collection came out and it became bothersome to open the menu up everytime I wanted to change weapons....when I could simply hit the "R" button to switch.

My L and R shoulder buttons don't work either and the licking trick is just a temporary solution so eventually I'l have to open it up since my warranty ran out in April.
