I have decided to make a thread about this because I'm really baffled how this can happen and I hope somebody knows what the hell happened... Well here's my story about my exploding pc. I was in my kitchen and I looked around to find smoke coming out from my pc so I rush over to find flames I put them out fast, "how are you baffled about that" you say? The pc wasn't even plugged in, It was last plugged into the wall around 4 hours before this happened! Now can anyone explain wtf happend and how this is possible? thanks

Don't power supplies have capacitors that retain voltage even if the computer is unplugged? I know CRT monitors do. Maybe a short in the aforementioned capacitor caused the fire?

Wait it wasnt even plugged into the wall?

Shit!

Must be some kind of leftover charge in the power supply or board that shorted, probably a one in a thousand occurance and it happened to you!

One in a thousand?
Then we'd have tons of people complaining about exploding pcs
Mac share rises 30%

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
