Gaming My laptop just died :0

so my parents were using a sony VAIO laptop just browsing downloading stuff (not pirate bay > )
and then the laptop just suddenly shut itself and won't turn on
we though it was a fuse problem but the green light on the AC plug is on

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP?

(yes after leaving it for a day, it still won't turn on )

Have you tried taking out the battery and running it completely off the AC? Or the other way round?

yup tried that (no AC-battery;battery-no AC)

guess it's game over for this laptop

i have this prob too just plug the battery out 4-5 times and put it again until the lite turns on

See I had this problem on my notebook. It was the charger that went crazy and weren't sending the right amount of energy into the battery, it either did too much and overloaded it or it didn't do enough. I replaced the charger and it works fine now. The only thing is my battery is screwed, it'll only last 5 minutes unplugged.

Smart batteries are supposed to have overcharge and overvolt protection. Where either of these fail, the cells degrade and lose their charge. They only last 2-3 years anyway, but bad conditions can make that much shorter

As mentioned, best option is to buy a new AC charger, then see if the battery is still living.

I guess they must have forgotten to put the protection in my battery, then again notebooks are shite.

Notebooks are fine, unless you're referring to netbooks. Notebook is just another term for a standard laptop.

It's not in warranty? There might also just be a fuse on the mobo which you could replace. Replacing the motherboard is rather heavy. Is it a often occuring problem with that type? If that's the case even if it isn't under warrenty it should still be covered (under factory warrenty or under general normal product use law).

Every good workshop would replace the motherboard. Not a fuse, not the CMOS battery (which is not causing something like this) - the whole motherboard.

the problem is always the MoBo, the hardest part to replace (exept for some monitor models). that way they will allways get some money out of you.

As bumps go, this wasn't big, plus bumped threads only really need to be locked if the bump was pointless.

the warrenty has expired 2yrs ago amd after that my parents just left the pc the way it is (from what i heard sony laptops have this common and who knows
when the same problem strikes again?)
