Yesterday, i took out my japanese Game Boy Light out of the shelf and took a closer look at it. In the center of the screen (the system was off) i noticed a purple/red spot. I inserted batteries and turned it on. First in "normal" mode (without the backlight function), and after this, with backlicht activated. In both modes, i noticed that the center of the screen, (where the purple/red spot was visible) the display was too bright, and barely visible... kinda of fading...

I bought the unit 12 years ago. At this time, everything was perfect. I rarely used the system, it was for collectors purpose.

It's sad to see, that without using it, the screen seems to decay.

Does anyone know why this is happening? And is there anything you can do to fix/prevent this?

I attached some pics... please take a closer look, than you will see what i mean.

So sad... the system is -beside of this flaw - in perfect conditon (optic and function)... :(

Last edited by Bonny,
it looks like the start of screen burn

Well... it seems so. The unit was always protected from sunlight, stored in its original box. Seems to be a chemical process. Does anyone know whats causing this?

Well, things like this happen. I'am much to clumsy/lazy to fix such a problem. I'll just put it back in its box, and toss it in the cellar... ^_^

Cause is either heat or light (doesn't have to be sunlight) burn-in, but it really is not hard to replace yourself.
And it's a succes for sure.
Price ain't high for the fix, so it's also low risk.
don't know what a gameboy light is worth these days though, so it depends on what's it worth to you.

You need to change polarizer and everything will be fine.
