Hardware My friend needs some help.

Well, my friend has a 3ds (Original) that has never been touched by CFW, but it has the same symptoms of you not updating luma.

• The 3ds turns on with the blue light on.
• The screen is black.
• Then it shuts down, including the blue light.

My CFW 2ds had a BoD, and they did not have the same symptoms.

Whats the problem?

Well. If your friends really doesnt have CFW on it. That would mean there is a hardware issue going on with the console.

Have you tried adding the Luma3DS boot.firm to the SD card to see if that does anything?

If the blue light turns off quickly, try putting the Luma3DS boot.firm on the root just in case. If it takes a while it's either some sort of brick or a power/battery problem. Also try recovery mode (A +R+L+Up).

As in, your friend is the original owner and bought this from the store? You're also sure they didn't try to CFW, goof'd and pulled a, "IDK....it just happened.!?.!"

He is the OG owner and has never tried to hack it, this might be a battery issue, or something of that liking.

ive been guessing his friend is probably him. Seeing as most turn out that way as they dont want to admit they fucked something up.

Did he fall or jar the top screen any at all. If the screens ribbon gets a micro tear in it it will show those symtoms also. Sometimes followed by a popping noise as it turns off.
