Hello all,

I bought a 3DS XL for my son about a year back and paid someone to hack it which includes installing custom firmware and etc so we can have access to free games.
Few days ago, my hands were itchy and i went to update the console firmware and now the console is not functioning at all. When i powered it up, the screen says, error and one file is not patched. when i pressed other buttons, the console turns off. I tried other means like holding L, R, A and up (d-pad) but unfortunately the system does not goes into recovery mode at all. :(. I dared not use the magnet method as i am afraid that it will damaged the console

I would to ask all the experts or kind soul here in providing me any solutions and it will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

You likely didnt update your cfw before updating firmware. update whatever cfw you were using manually then itll be fixed(most likely, its luma3ds)

Does it look like this?

An error has occured:

Failed to apply 1 FIRM patch(es).

Press any button to shutdown.

In this case replace the boot.firm on your SD with the one from the latest (9.1) release of Luma.

The "magnet method" (ntrboot) will not damage anything, but as you said: your console already has custom firmware. The ntrboot method is mostly used to install cfw (and can also be helpful in case something went really wrong).

Hi there,

Yeah, the error message is correct. Issue now is i have deleted all the files in the SD card so now the SD card is empty. :(. Do you have any solutions?

Just download the Luma3DS file and place it on the SD.
After you confirm it works, we can also tell you how to restore all the needed stuff on the SD

If you have not written anything after deleting the files on the SD, it might be possible to recover them with special software.
:!: Writing to the SD will corrupt the deleted files and make recovery impossible.

Did you also delete the folder:
SD:/Nintendo 3DS
Because this is where the installed games and saves are stored.

:!: Again: writing to the SD now will make recovering the old files impossible:!:

If you decide to forget about the deleted files on the SD:

Just repeat the finalizing setup of the guide. Having the 3DS hacked by a friend has the downside that you're not familiar with the process and have to learn everything. The finalizing page of the guide is long, but it's not complicated: An easy step-by-step guide. In addition to all the files you have to download boot.3dsx from here.
Your SD should look like this:
SD-card_setup.png

The file SD:/luma/config.bin is generated by luma when booting the first time. Don't search for it in the downloads.

if its been along while since you've used it then understand freeshop and it's ilk are dead and there will never be an update to fix em, (the exploit they used were patched.) you will haveto use The ISO Site/torrent / other methods and install via FBI just like before freeshop became popular. (do not ask where these sites are or where to get any games either. )

Thanks,
Those don't work anymore. Nintendo patched the exploit used server side. aka, there is no way to use them anymore.

You will need to download your games from other sources and use FBI to install them.

Doesn't matter where they're stored. CIA format can be installed from any location on the SD card using FBI. Make sure you're getting CIA format or you have to convert the games into CIA format.
