Hardware My 3DS just randomly turned off

I had my 3DS in sleep mode while a game was running, when I opened it the system randomly shut off after one second and the speakers made a loud popping noise. The 3DS turned on normally after that, but what could have caused it and is it possible to prevent it from happening in the future?

The error is roughly 4 inches in front of the screen.
Give the 3ds to someone else.

Speaker assembly flex cable is on its way out due to hinge stress breaking the leads. You'll need to keep an eye out replacing that part later down the line.
