hi, i am on fw 4.5,i have gateway, can i load multiple games on my 3ds with a sd card?
If you have a gw card it's very simple and you don't need to use that guide. If you want to have games on your sd card you'll need to install them as cia files or you can just use .3ds files on the micro sd card inside the red gw.

so,can i load many games on the sd card or do i need to put them one by one every time?

What are you talking about? Just put the games on the SD card of the Gateway

You could still follow 3ds.guide though and install CFW on your console and stop using Gateway completely. You could be on newest firmware, play online and not worry about headers and much more ..

The micro SD Card that goes inside the Gateway card can hold as many games, not just one at a time, as you can fit on the SD Card. The games have to be in form of .3ds files. Then, simply load gateway mode (either classic mode or emunand mode) and press select (or was it start? I haven't used my gateway in a while...) to open the game selection menu. Choose the game you want to play with the D-Pad and simply press A to start the game. Simple as that.

Using gateway cards for piracy/backups is dated now since cfw has more benifits. What you can use the gateway for however is cheats as long as you don't get a dstwo and mix them together which would activate the brick code. With cfw you can install games on the sd card through your sysnand,go online without messing with anything or getting banned and you can chainload gateway through a9lh

As in, you currently can only have one game on the Gateway SD card? Are you still using Gateway's 1.0 firmware?

For those of you who don't remember, the original Gateway firmware could only run a single game per SD card. This was improved in later versions. (Check Gateway's website for firmware updates.)

With that in mind, you don't need Gateway to run non-legit titles anymore. The guide mentioned previously (https://3ds.guide/) lets you install custom firmware plus arm9loaderhax, which lets you run unsigned software installed directly to the 3DS SD card. It's also possible to use this setup in conjunction with Gateway. (I'm not sure how to do that; there should be a guide for it somewhere on GBAtemp.)

I honestly reccomend this way.

CFW is alot easier than gateway from what I can gather, plus, you can play on latest system vers.

The simplest way to play pirated games is using a gateway. Look at this site - every day there are new threads about people who have bricked there 3ds by trying to put on cfw.

Because they didn't follow the guide correctly. Even then, the brick risk is getting less and less, hell I even gave up halfway and still no brick :P.
Even used outdated payloads at one point and STILL didn't get a brick.
If you follow the guide correctly, you won't be bricked.

Fair enough. I suppose my point is that if you have a gateway card and a 3ds on 4.5 setting it up will take 5 mins (less probably). Setting up cfw would take hours if you didn't really know what you were doing.

Really, really no. The instructions on the Gateway site for their version of a9lh is very dangerous. It was taken from the very first implementation, so is over a year out of date.
If you use the community a9lh, with Gateway on top, then you have to make sure to never update sysNAND, or you will instantly brick, because they lack firm protection, unlike Luma.
If you use their older method with menuhax, and you are already on 9.2, you still have to worry about updating sysNAND, or you will lose access to Gateway. If you want to use their older method and are above 9.2, then you have to find your own instructions for downgrading. The older methods are more dangerous, so you'd have to research all of them and try to work out which of them was more up to date. You'd probably brick because you didn't know what you were doing, and not following the guide (if you knew what you were doing you wouldn't be using Gateway, and you certainly wouldn't be trying t use menuhax).

I was simply referring to the original way of using a gw card with 4.5 fw and using emunand. I have one card (which I've had since gw first released) and use it with 3 3ds (mine and my two sons). Without wanting to sound like a fanboy it's the best investment i ever made.

Had no idea what I was doing to be fair. Took me an hour maybe less.
Honestly CFW isn't as complicated as it sounds and there are so many noob proof guides out there including the 'infamous' one by Plaitect.

And yet every day threads are started by folk who've bricked their 3ds (I'm a bit of a noob to be honest - I would probably have been one of them!) so gateway was/is just the easiest way to do it.

You NEED CFW in order to load games/backups. The most commonly used CFW is Luma3DS: https://gbatemp.net/threads/luma3ds-noob-proof-3ds-custom-firmware.411110/
Do you know english well? If so, install Luma3DS, arm9loaderhax, some homebrew apps and FBI with the following: https://3ds.guide/ (I highly reccomend updating to the latest OFW 〚 11.2〛 for the sake of saving time)
If you want free games I suggest installing freeShop afterwards: https://freeshop.pw/
If you want to use another CFW or want to know what other CFWs do then I suggest reading Crystal The Glaceon’s thread/FAQ: https://gbatemp.net/threads/faq-what-cfw-is-best-for-me.428509/
If you have any doubts, just ask, look in threads made by other people, the stickies, or make one yourself.
3DS.GUIDE WILL NEVER BE OUTDATED. I AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE SUGGEST NOT FOLLOWING VIDEO GUIDES, AS THEY BECOME OUTDATED REALLY QUICK.
Just to tell you, other written guides have caused many bricks and unnecessary problems due to them using outdated methods. 3ds.guide is basically the equivalent of the 3DS modder's bible.

I was a noob aswell when it came to CFW. Just look at my threads if you don't believe it :P. It's not hard to install CFW. Take the steps literally and it'll work
