This is true.

It will easily chew its way out and you'll be left with a mess- a dangerous mess. The common deer mouse is a carrier of Hantavirus, a particularly nasty hemorrhagic fever transmitted through droppings.

If it's in your closet, it would not surprise me if it's already escaped by now.

Mice are pretty crafty. It'll get out. It's super unlikely your closet doesn't have some way for it to escape. It'll also make a hell of a mess in there even if it doesn't.
