That's reminds me of when I was younger, 5 or 6 I think, and I thought that swapping the label of a nes cartridge another would grant me a new game

(well, I even thought I could mod a console simply putting some new pieces inside and gluing back the guts togheter...)

And programming is only a slice of the cake, even if you master it (in a few years of course), you can't build the game you want on that alone.

You can just yell Ouendan! And maybe you'll spin out a new game in a week as long as you tap the right buttons.

In any case, just look at ANY game, even the craptastic ET on atari (I think). That game took like what....5 weeks? Great! Short production time! Have you seen the quality of the game? Yea. You need at least a year for a semi decent game. And preferrably a team of people who are getting paid and/or VERY ambitious for doing it free.

That's cause we all from the very deepest core of our heart, would like to see him succeed with his little game. It's like the crippled boy you cheer for in the movies when he goes for the 100 metre sprint and then a silently but yet satisfying 'awww' is echoed through the room as he reaches the goal...
