Okay so picked up one of these cheap for a couple bucks.
Since it's self-powered, I can use it to charge all my USB devices and not have to wield a stupid USB power brick with only 1 port.
    Right?

Well, my iPod doesn't want to charge from it because it needs ~2.5V on D- and D+.
    The data lines.

I still want to use it as a hub occasionally.
That means modifying the hub so that I can use it for both "charging mode" and "PC mode".
It wouldn't be hard to modify the hub, just use a voltage dividing circuit (above) and a switch, IF IT WASN'T FOR ONE THING.

WHERE THE HELL DO I SOLDER IN MY COMPONENTS?

    (Irrelevant info in spoiler)
    Warning: Spoilers inside!

    Helpz.

(lol I managed to open it 10 seconds after this post >_>)

if you want you can simply take the cable and do it to that, take a regular usb extension cord toss it into an little enclosure and carry it around and you will be fine. dont crack it open do it to an extension you cant really fuck up

a schem made in paint will be posted in a sec hold on

not a schem but you will understand, just do this and you can plug your cable into it and it will work just fine
