I have a few questions about this tutorial:

1. I see that the file IOS80-64-v6943[TB+NAND].wad will be installed. Why is this? This question is answered "In short, some channels won't work if you don't have a patched System Menu IOS." (http://gbatemp.net/t171901-modify-any-wii-4-3-below?st=7485&p=3452395&). Can someone tell me what channels won't work? If I understand correctly, these cIOS's install to empty slots, how can this break existing IOS's? I'd rather not install it, because I want to keep my system as clean as possible.

2. Why does this tutorial use priiloader 0.4, and not the latest 0.6 (which seems to be used in many other tutorials).

3. Yesterday, I was recommended to use Hermes IOS223 v4, bases 38+37 (by Lacuis, thanks for your quick response!), but this tutorial uses 223 v5, base 37. What is the difference?

4. Why doesn't this tutorial use Hermes v5.1 (this tutorial seems really up-to-date).

Thanks in advance,
-Bart.

1. Wiiware/VC channels.

2. In the same post which you referred to above, I mentioned that the AHBPROT bug still exists, and will always exist until we get a new HBC. When that happens, and it is proven it won't brick Wii's, it will be added. Also, I know that the guides on this site still use .4.

3. Without the context it was used in, it is difficult to understand why he said that. But if I remember correctly, the merged base was to enable use of Rock Band instruments (among other usb peripheral). And it was the first cios to use a base other than 38. I never really used hermes ios until v5, so don't quote me on any of that however. And even today, I use wanin's for everything. I haven't found a game that hasn't played with 21 base 56 or 57 (not that there isn't one).

4. For 99.9% of people, it offers no advantages over v5. See here for more info.

hello ppl

Thanks for the guide..
i just done all the steps and now i m at the PriiLoader installation..
and i have a problem...

i ve already intalled Priiloader via HBC, edited the hacks to version 482 and placed the hacks_hash.ini at SD root.. but when i go to
System Menu Hacks it says:

Syntax Error: expected 'version' before 'n' @ line 2
Can't find hacks_hash.ini on FAT Device
Can't find hacks_hash on NAND

What is the problem? Can you pls help me?
Thanks!

Are you following the complete softmod guide? Or the guide in the first post?

Sounds like you are following the CSG, which uses priiloader .6. Right click here and save as. Save it to your sd card, and try launching priiloader again. You shouldn't have to edit anything.

Well I checked and my Wii is 3.4U with HB channel 1.0.1 (yes old) and cIOS rev 20, but everything is working great so far, would I benefit from anything if I update to 4.2U and HB channel 1.0.8????? I mean id like to install bootmii and priiloader just for security measures...

Been a long time since I touched my Wii. Not sure how long. It's modded already, and it's 4.2. I'm out of the loop for a lot of this stuff and my memory sucks. Is there an app that I could load with HBC or the like to check all my IOS' and such? Maybe it could save a log file I could post that someone could look at?

And are there any functional differences between this and the ModMii methods?

You won't gain any amazing features, no.

Google syscheck 2.0.

As far as the end result of the ios's and such? No.

Modmii does however give you options as far as setting up other stuff VERY easily.

Does this mean that my existing Wiiware/VC channels (the ones I purchased in the Wii Shop channel) will be broken if I don't install it? Or is it required if I install Wiiware/VC channels myself (e.g. from WADs, not from the shop channel).

Also, I guess that if I want to install it, I should do so before installing Priiloader, because Priiloader also modifies IOS80, right (I'm on 4.3E).

Bart.

ok i think i've just hacked my wii.... but i have a few questions:

1. How can i check that all the stuff i've installed is the latest version. I downloaded the 43mod.zip from the first page here, is all of that the latest version? I don't really know what programs are what, just a vague idea.

2. Now i'm done what do i need to keep on the SD card? ATM i've got:
> apps (i know i need to keep this.)
> Within app folder do i need: IOS236 Installer v5 Mod, priiloader, sysCheck2.0.1 or YAWM Multimod Batch?
> private (exactly the same as the private folder downloaded from here, nothing more, nothing less)
> wad (again, same as above)
> boot.elf
> hacks.ini
> installer.txt
> IOS36-64-v33351.wad

3. Which disk backup software should i use?
NeoGamma, Softchip or DARKCORP? Which one's best and what's the difference?

4. Is there anyway of checking whether i have done everything necessary to prevent bricking, and fully set up every essential program etc?

5. Does it make a difference that i'm using a micro SD instead of normal SD?

edit: do i need app folder contents? (see above) & Q5

Bart.

Just ones that aren't signed.

No, priiloader attaches itself to the system menu.

also i've just noticed mod mii which could have saved e my whole day but oh well, it's done now. does mod mii contain anything extra than what i've just done? does it include neogamma? can i install it now that i've already followed this guide?

If you have firmware 4.3 you have to use a game, there is not yet another solution.

oh ok
i read somewhere that even if there is a way to mod 4.3, it has to deal with modifying the hardware.. is this correct?

You can do the hardmod, then a chip is installed in your Wii, so you can play backup games.

But to softmod 4.3 you still need a game. When your Wii is hardmodded you can also use a copy of a game (not the original)
When your Wii isn't hardmodded, you need a original game

I installed all of this stuff on a black 4.3U wii but backups aren't loading through the neogamma channel.
What do I do?

Black and red Wii's cannot play backups games with DVD.
You need to use a hard drive.
Newer white Wii's also cannot.

There is another option that involves swapping gutting your Wii and swapping drives with another system, temporarily just for the exploit.

How does this option work.
Give more details.
