Hardware Modding GBA-s

Are there any awesome mods for any of the GBA models?

Most of them on google are old and broken...

Are there any particularly awesome ones?


...If not, I am thinking of taking a PS2 controller and Frankenstein-ing it with one of my GBA-s so the buttons are the GBA's buttons.
The holes where the joysticks go will be for speakers.

I like the Sp's original sized and back lighted screen, but I also like how the Micro could use the unused buttons on the PS2 controller for volume.
Good idea at all?
Which one type of GBA should I use?

The ps2 remote will be cut in half, and the gba stuck inbetween the halfs.
Well then, Progress!

I have my ps2 remote taken apart, and gutted.
It was suprisingly easy to take apart...

I have my speakers, and wire mesh to peotect them.
They will be going where the joysticks were.
Im also working on the circutry to power them. (off the gba's batt)

Im using an sp, which I have orderd a new case for.
(black, to mach the ps2 remote.)

... If I manage to not break the gba, this wil turn out quite well.

I was able to overclock mine, now it goes 3 times faster. Its great for games like pokemon that require tons of grinding.

Anyway; I just got the black shell to put the GBA SP hardware in.
The speaker-s's mesh is put in, and I have the stereo audio amp planned out.
It is going to have a on/off switch for overclocking.

Is there any way to make the SP's backlight brighter?
That would be awesome.

Kind of the plan:
The blue things are LEDs for power and overclocking. (on/off)
The switches will be inside the top, on eiether side of the GBA.

If you do infact do this, I will be greatly pleased. I would recommend however, using a different setup.

This is the way you see it. I propose that instead, you flatten the top middle of the controller, and make a hinge, and sand out any bulges that might interfere with closing. You could then put the LEDs in the middle next to the Start and Select buttons (or even on the handles), and then put the switches where the L2 and R2 buttons would go. This is speculatory, however, as I'm unsure of whether the internals of the SP would fit in the PS2 controller, and if they could be wired this way.

This has got me thinking, and I might end up doing my own frankenstein mod now. I might do one of the following:
1. mod into a PS2 controller: I happen to have a spare in my closet.
2. mod into a broken ti89 titanium: it would be good for real Math class gaming
3. mod into a broken camera: because I'd love to be like "okay, say che- God damn it, I brought my Gameboy on accident"
4. mod into a N64 controller: though it would be hard as hell to play
5. mod into an alarmclock: to trigger on when the alarm goes, and boot up onto a homebrew app that would do something like play music maybe? I dunno. It's a piece of crap alarm. xD
Or I could mod it into a random piece of crap I have sitting around, like my printer, Casio PC, iPod speaker, or anything big enough really.


I can tell you this: I might not be a hardware expert, but I love taking crap apart and putting it back together, especially when it's in a different shell from before.

I thought abot that, but pictures from the net show the GBA board to be about the size of the base, witch will not fit into the PS2 remote, even if it was about 1/2 the size.

After I get my Nintendo screwdriver, I can start on this.

Really? I've compared my SP to a generic PS2 controller and I'm sure with a little effort it could fit in. Although, you might have to make the cartridge slot stick out just a little
