I have been having this problem for a while but just been postponing fixing it since the last year was very busy for me. That's also part of the problem. I had someone do the mod chip installation but I set up the SD card myself. However its been like 2.5 years and I can't remember all the steps and the guide I was using doesn't exist anymore.

The switch has been working perfectly fine but I am having this issue where I get a just a pure black screen after rebooting/powering off. This started happening after an update of the firmware to 17.0.0.0 and I think there was also something going on with the themes folder and it causing a black screen and deleting some content folder fixed it. I had to do this a couple of times but now the problem is different. It just constantly shows a black screen.

For a while I thought the switch was broken. However by accident I discovered that by completely draining the switch of its battery it would boot into hekate again. If I tried booting into emunand or just powering off hekate, I couldn't power it on again it would just show a black screen. On the bottom of the Switch I can see there is a purple LED though.

Now my question is, is this a software issue or a hardware issue.

I am trying to tinker with the SD Card, deleting old atmosphere folders etc and copying over the new files. But it's not doing anything really. Still a black screen. Now I have to wait again until the switch is drained of its battery until I can access hekate. This makes me think it is just stuck in some sort of bootloop and it might be a software issue.

How do I go about backing up at least my games and save files and maybe redoing the whole mod thing?

I also tried deleting everything but the emummcc and the firmware folder and putting in the HATS package. Still I got a black screen. This is how my SD looks currently.

You probably for a HWFly modchip and a purple led means that it failed to glitch the Switch.
Without a succesful glitch, Hekate also won't start.
It could be as simple as a loose wire or a loose DAT0 adapter.

The easiest thing would be to get another SD card (64GB is enough) and use that for testing.
Once that works, just update Hekate and Atmosphere on the original SD card and everything will probably work again.

But shouldnt it in theory even boot into hekate without the SD card? I just backed up the entire SD card and put on the fresh new files from the HATS package and it still wouldnt turn on, all I see is black screen no matter how long I hold the power button.

At this point, I know all I can do is wait for the switch battery to completely discharge. Do you think that could be a problem with the cable as well? Why would it then turn on if I let the battery go to 0?

Also, yeah I have a HWFly mod chip.
