Just to update this topic for anyone in the future that might read it having found it in a search, the easiest way to use modchips such as the drivekey in these newer style Wii drive, is to buy a replacement Wii DVD drive PCB. You want the non D3 one. This can be swapped out with a quick bit of soldering and then you can use a drivekey. The Wii's serial number can be used to check if it has a D3 style drive, but often this is not accurate if your Wii is a refurb or had a repair, as they tend to use the newer style drives even in older cases/chassis.
