Note: I don't know if this exists on the original Wii as I used a WD Passport on that and more importantly my original Wii is in the closet.
It seems I have to "Jump start" the WD My Book (externally powered, in the top USB slot) after the console has been off a while to be read in the vWii
Two ways to explain what's happening
- USB Loader GX Method
If I power up (after x amount of time off), boot into vWii and run USB Loader GX it will hang at the Initialized USB portion of the boot requiring me to pull the power cord. Usually after a few tries the USB drive will be loaded
-Nintendont Method
This is how I usually go about getting the drive "warmed up" as it doesn't require a pull of the power cord if it fails. Load Nintendont, select USB. It will fail to find the USB device.. Nintendont exits out to the Homebrew channel.. I re-run Nintendont and now the USB device is instantly found.
Any cure for this? Anyone else experiencing it? Once the drive is finally "warmed up" I can enter and exist USB Loader GX etc fine for hours on end. It only seems to be when the system is off for a while does it require the jump start of the drive..
Sleep mode of the drive is turned off via the WD SmartAware.. So it isn't hibernating.
