Call it TempCraft xD.. or go with DarkStrikerCraft.. I dont mind it at all!
But i got a question. Doesnt Lamecraft use the textures from Minecraft itself?
If not, why not ask the creator of Lamecraft to use the same textures? Well i believe 100% that those textures is from minecraft itself.
Actually no, iirc the creator of Lamecraft asked Mojang if he could use their textures but never got an answer, so he decided to make his own. Or something along those lines.
Anyway, if I do get around to adding texture pack support then anyone who owns the game will be able to use the original's textures.
Plus, I actually kind of like eld's textures better; it's a different style but for some reason I feel like it suits the DS better.

Heh, while I'm at it might as well reply to older posts :

I wish I had a DS to test it out! Any chance of a wii homebrew port when you done?
Sorry, I'm not really into wii development (I've never tried it actually). I think a wii port of Lamecraft would be more appropriate, plus I think it's opensource (not sure though).

Homebrew games take along time to make and some games as very "tricky", I know because I've been making one for six months. Seeing that nobody has made a wii version of minecraft yet, i presume our best bet would be to get a port of one as a starting point. Even better if its already done.

It's true that porting an existing adaptation would make things go faster, but as I just said Lamecraft would be better suited for a wii port; in my version I'm doing too many things that are DS-specific and that would be unnecessary on other platforms to make it a good candidate for a wii port.

Also, congrats for your game, the screenshots look really nice.

I believe it should be like this.

*snip*

I'm crappy at photoshop

That's more or less what I'm going for, except that the inventory screen won't be open all the time (if it was, it would be difficult to use the touchscreen to aim at the same time). The way I see it, there will be an item bar (like on the PC) somewhere on the screen (either near the top or the bottom), a button to open the inventory screen and a button to switch between "action" and "placing" modes, or something along those lines... I'm not quite sure yet, but it should work.

EDIT : here are a couple more screenshots

WOW Smealum, great work

Keep it up!:) Thanks for those new pictures also with the new texturepack that you're using!

Looking good. I think the name DSCraft is perfect, btw, along with your vision of touch screen implementation.
Eagerly awaiting the next version, along with everyone else I'm sure.

Going to need some cellular automata algorithms to get per-block lighting.
Since its the DS you can have lower block 'sub divisions" at farther distances.

No matter how I'd like 'TempCraft' to be the name - I do like 'DSCraft' as well as it indicates it's mine craft for the DS

As for those screenshot with alternative texture pack - looking good

I also agree with the inventory business - it shouldn't be on screen all the time. The 'bar' I think should be on bottom screen, with larger boxes (maybe a 2-row instead of a single line) - make it easier to 'touch' the box for the item you want

hehe, im happy i got a copy before the mojang didnt want u to use textures. The game is running very smooth, though I can't figure out wat button removes blocks XD Keep the good work up man:P

Just to imagine how DsCraft might be

And a question, day and night cycle is already in the game, so, does this means that is possible to play adventure mode? Or will it be more like Minecraft Classic but with night time?

And i notice that there are some creepers in the game too, how they behave? They explode?

So far it's just Classic with basic night/day cycle. As I've said, survival might come later, but if it ever does, it will be a limited version.

Actually that was just a test I made, I've removed them from the game since then; I'll put them back in once I start working on survival.

Also, it's not much but it will make building a lot better; it's now possible to select individual faces of blocks, so I added a little cursor and a crosshair.

Is it possible for you to add customizable controls?

The game is looking really good! What is the map limit thus far?

Because of the limited controls for using the stylus, here is my opinion on how the controls should set up:

Control option 1:
Up/X - Move forward
Down/B - Move Backwards
Left/Y - change from 'Place Block' to 'Remove Block' mode, and vise-versa
Right/A - Jump
L/R - The actual action of 'Place Block' or 'Remove Block'
Touch screen - Same

Control option 2:
Up/X - Move forward
Down/B - Move Backwards
Left/Y - Move left
Right/A - Move Right
L/R - The action of 'Place Block' or 'Remove Block'
Use the touch screen to change 'Place Block,' 'Remove Block' mode, and left/y and right/a to move left and right. Double tap screen to jump or press certain 'jump icon.

You liek?

So, if the game has night mode, how is the visibility at night? Will you add some torches?

Do you think jumping will eventually be handled by double-tapping the touch screen?
Yeah, probably. I'm thinking about implementing multiple control schemes but the default one will probably be close to metroid prime hunters'.

There will at least be multiple control schemes to choose from, not sure how customizable I can make it though.

So far the engine can steam maps that are 1024*1024*64 blocks (64 being height obviously). I think it could go as high as 2048*2048*64 but that's it. (meaning no real time terrain generation)

Your second suggestion is pretty much what I'm going for at the moment.

Pressing R just makes me remove a block instead of adding one.
That's probably because the selected block value is 0. Try pressing Y to change it and then press R again.

So far it's really not that great. I'm still not sure how/if I can really handle any kind of real time lighting effects, but I'll be looking into it.

I imagine diminishing the draw distance to 10 feet or so, beyond which blackeness extends into the skybox, and creating a fog just within the draw distance to make it blend could be a nice night effect. Transitioning to this state would pose its own set of issues though, I'm sure...
Anyways, no doubt whatever you come up with will be much better than this, but I figure no harm in throwing my goofy idea out there.

Edit: Thinking a bit more on it, I can see this idea wouldn't work. Particularly in large underground areas where you would be seeing through the ceiling.
