I updated Dawnshifter's MHXX save editor code to load MHGU save files. All I did was update filesize to match MHGU size instead of MHXX. Tested some item box save edits and it worked fine. Use at your own risk and backup saves!

If you don't want my exe you can compile Dawnshifter's code with my forked filesize edit below

changed code is-
MHXXSwitchSaveEditor/MHXXSaveEditor/Forms/MainForm.cs
Line 32; readonly int SWITCH_SAVE_SIZE = 4726152 + 432948;

https://github.com/Dawnshifter/MHXXSwitchSaveEditor

Update since everyone is asking
At this time you can convert your MHG and MHX saves:
1. MHG -> MHX (via 3ds .cia MHX Data Manager, I suggest moving to Character Slot 1)
Get cia or homebrew .3dsx file here
Yes, you need a hacked/homebrewed 3ds.

2. Import MHX save to MHXX on 3ds via game
You need MHXX (game or cia) on your 3ds. Open the game and import your MHX save.

3. Export MHXX 3ds save file using JKSM or other save data tool.
JKSM found here
Choose to export ExtData for MHXX

4. Open the MHGU Save Editor I posted here, and convert the "system" file you just exported to Switch (click okay for errors or re-open exe if it wont load save)
Load your 3ds MHXX save file, select convert at the top then To Switch.

5. Import the new "system" file to your Switch using Checkpoint or other save data tool.
Checkpoint .nro file can be found here
Yes, you need to have homebrew running on your Switch

Attached my MHG converted save, it lets you import as new save (edit name, etc.)

MHXX/MHX saves may have extra data and cannot be imported as-is (try deleting special items if you can)

For help with Talisman editing (game and app blocks fakes)

my post in this thread
the converter asks for a switch save file i thought it would make you transfer your 3ds into switch i wasted hours of editing only to find out it doesnt work and also my mhgu doesnt want to save anymore even if i deleted the previous save so mhgu cant be played on my hacked switch for some reason.. gives me and sd card error but only for this game

Can I convert a MHGenu Switch savegame to 3DS XX?

Reason why Im asking is I only have a 3ds with XX which has crossplay with Switch XX.

However, by using cheats in code format through Luma you can change region of the 3DS XX and connect with people who play Switch Genu (there's a thread on GBAtemp here).

However, since DLC mismatch, one can crash the other players by posting event DLC quests. Now, considering MHXX/Genu DLC are basically saved in the savegame, my idea would be to convert a full Switch Genu savegame with DLC downlpaded (or rather embedded within the savefile) into 3DS XX format to see if that would work.

Is it doable? Could someone also provide a clean 0 percent Switch Genu savefile with all the DLC downloaded?

It seems everytime I edit my save, and then re-inject back using JKSV. I have done nothing to my savefile

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

It seems everytime I edit my save, and then re-inject back using JKSV. I have done nothing to my savefile
As well as when I try again, I backup my save with JKSV. I end up with a system file and a folder. If you go to the root of the folder it also contains another system file. Both have same file size. Which one should we be using in the Save Editor?

After successfully booting up my save into the save editor and testing by adding in one weapon(Steve GL). I re-injected back into my Switch. Load the game up and no changes have taken place. When I create a backup of the save again, and load it with the save editor. I can clearly see the new GunLance I placed in my material box. Anyone have any suggestions why it’s not showing up in game?

@entopical
Does the save editor work for the updated version of GenU? From my testing it looks like it doesn’t, as every time I try to inject my modified save I don’t see any of the changes in the game.

Is there a way to export box items? I want to play my second profile with the charms I created. For those who are having issues with injecting their save for GU, try using Checkpoint. Works fine for me.

Edit: I'm a noob. There was the option in the menu :P

Is really the only CFW friendly way of transferring a save from MHG to MHGU to do all the conversion from:

MHG -> MHX -> MHXX -> MHXX (Switch) and then trying to convert the offsets to MHGU using this editor?

Hello guys, I was wondering if someone could help me converting my save from mhxx(3ds). I'm a noob with Hex editor. I was trying to figure it out, but when i put the converted save to my nswitch, the game freezes.

delete all your 3ds dlc (or all DLC and items that not avaiable on MHGU if you know which ones), and delete all event/MHXX only items too, then use the MHGU save editor that author attached in page 1 to convert it to MHGU save. And remember you must have system_backup file when restoring save or your MHGU will crash (clone system and rename it to system_backup)

I'm having a hard time understanding from the OP, but does this allow you (in a roundabout way) to convert a MHXX save on 3DS so that it works with MHGU on Switch? If so, is it possible someone could write up some kind of short guide for dummies? I already have both my 3DS and Switch with CFW. It's just a bit confusing trying to figure this out by reading 22 pages of posts.

read my post right above, the mhgu save editor attached in this page has an option to convert save to MHGU and backward . However, if you want to convert to MHGU with all MHGU dlc (you must remove all MHXX exclusives anyway...), it's a bit tricky...

Hello could anyone help with re-inject save data?

i used 2 SD card, one for OFW and other for CFW.
This the step i've done:
1. fire up the CFW
2. backup save data using checkpoint
3. edit save data
4. restore using checkpoint
5. When open in CFW, i could see the change and do manual save inside the game
6. When i swap sd card and open in OFW, no change happen

how to inject save data to OFW? could anyone help?

the only way I know is boot CFW in your original sysnand and use check point, when you say another SD for CFW you mean Emunand/EmuMMC right? it has a whole Nand partition in your SD, completely seperate from your switch internal SysNand. If you're not using Emunand, I don't know why it didn't work because that mean you already used CFW in your original sysnand, It's pointless to have 2 SD card

Okay, so is this correct?
What i do is modify my save data on emuMMC, while save data on sysnand is still intact.
save data between emuMMC and sysnand are separated and cannot be transfer

Is there a way to just convert a Monster Hunter Generations (3DS USA) save file into a Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate save file? My 3DS stopped working 2 years ago but i stiil have some MHG backups.

*Edit: i did all this bullshit, the app detects the 3DS save but now it says that the switch file is not a valid one. I tried using the one you provided but it's the same problem. What can I do?
