Metroid Other M is a great game. Got to play it at my cousin's house.
I'm home now and I wanna burn it to a DVD. I only have Single-Layer DVDs though.
The CGI cutscenes are amazing and I don't want to cut them. They make the game.
Is there any way to split the game onto two discs. Like... one part of the game on one and the other part on another ?
Half & half ?

If not, any way to view .sfd files on the PC ?

I don't think that in itself will be possible. It might be a possibility though, to see how big the game itself is without the movies.

If the game itself is 3 gig for example, you could burn a whole bunch of DVD5's, with every disc containing 1 gig of movies, and replace the other ones with 0kb files, like:

Disc 1: Game + movie 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Replace 6 till 20 with 0kb files (placeholders)

Disc 2: Game + movie 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Replace 1-5 and 11 till 20 with 0kb files

It'll be some trouble with switching discs and all that. Just saying it MIGHT be a solution

I meant more like:

Disc 1: 4 GB (Half the levels, half the movies)
Disc 2: 4 GB (Half the levels, half the movies)

That is if the game can run without missing files.
And the core data has to be on both discs.

no not possible for it to fit on a dvd 5 you have to get rid of all the cutscenes

Okay then. How can I watch .sfd files on the PC ? Are there anyway to compress these files some way and stick them back in the ISO ?

Just throwing it at mplayer produces pixelated video and no audio.
Not good but ok as a starting point for experiments.
But you would not know when to watch which video in any case.

Try the Game and buy it if you like it.
The amount of work required to pull things like you suggest isnt worth it.

i dont have either the time or the momentum to grab metroid just to look at the sfd files but for anyone that does here is a hint that might be useful

sfd files were used on the dreamcast and are sofdec video files

if the sfd files included in metroid are of the same structure then their is tools to properly decode/convert and then recode them
it mite be of use but like i said i have no interest in downloading the game to actually have a look at the format

Why not just buy a DVD-R DL and save yourself the extra time and effort?

I would like to know if this would work, could someone confirm?

also I read somewhere that VLC media player plays the .sfd files fine, but again it would be difficult to identify when they should be played.

If burning the game to a duel layer dvd works then that's what I would do, just need to figure out how to avoid all the freezing that's been reported ¬_¬
